Main Lulu Support w/ Tanky Items, going against full AP Sona is a disaster.

Hello guys, new season finally started, but the ranked system is just back up like 2015. Being in Bronze sucks, but tiers sometimes don't matter. What matters is the skills. Now, I want to talk about this champion right here -> Sona

What is so special of her, what is so good about her ? Well, here is the answers to those things :

  1. Her special aura (When Q, W, E is used) makes teammates go stronger and faster
  2. Cresendo (Sona's ult) can quickly stun enemies in order to give other tanks like top laner or jungler to go in to the enemy and start a team fight.
  3. Her passive gives Sona a chance to buy Sheen (Q w/ passive + sheen or lich bane)

Now, as a support user since Season 3, I really don't like how they like to treat this champion. Remember that one time, where Sona's aura is there all the time, and her Cresendo (ult) was all.. Bumpy ? Well I remember that time. She was actually OP, without even building AP. So here, I would write everything about what could be considered to be changed a little bit.

Sona's Q : This skill is absolutely critical towards both enemy and allies. Because of how her skills can effect allies for a buff, and enemies for pain, Sona is really big pain to go against. Especially when she is AP. Think about what her passive does, instead of how much damage it deals. item 3100 + item 3285 + item 3135 + item 3020 + Passive(Q) = Absolute PAIN.

However, to resolve this, there might be some sort of rewriting her Q's passive, to where it's not multiplying, but it adds to where it's like +1.5 AP or something like that. Because multiplied damage really deals too much.

Sona's W : From the point I have said that when Sona builds AP, there is absolutely no way that you can win. However, her heal, W, is acceptable at some points. However, the new "Keystone" is where Sona's W takes risk in. Let's say that she went the Windspeaker's Blessing. Where if you shield or heal, that targeted champion gets extra armor. I think it's really useful, playing Lulu, because her Wild Growth (ult) is still considered heal, yet the Keystone still doesn't work. However, if Sona has something else like, Bond of Stone (the worst Keystone for support !!!) or Thunderlord, they barely even use their W, unless a teammate is low.

Sona's E : Nothing to really speak about. What could I say to something that slows you down quite much. Because of Sona's passive, her E basically slows a champion down, because it's a "Fast-for-allies, Slow-for-enemy" style. However, what I really think about skill is that turn it down a bit. It's like she's on a highway with bunch of jocks riding Harley-Davidson motorcycles.

Sona's Cresendo (ult) : If I have to say a one word, it's a game turner. If you're losing with Sona, her Cresendo means everything. You can turn a teamfight from 0 to 100. That easy. However, what's funny about this skill, is that it still does Magic Damage. So, I know that Cresendo means loud because I am a one band freak, but this shouldn't mean that it could make you hurt. Your ears might blow up, but the damage it's giving, is at most 500 hp. Which means, Cresendo to Q is just one two skills.

Sona's Passive : Riot. Please. If you ever change Sona's passive, make it something about her skills not stacking until three, and cast by a basic attack. Why not an ability increaser, to where in certain amounts of skills used, the ability of the casting skill is better, instead of Q being all OP ? Here's something : you guys can make it to where Q can give more extra damage in aura, W gives more stronger shield, and E gives more faster movement speed. Because, AP Sona has been meta since you guys wanted to change Sona a bit. So I think that her passive should go away.

Conclusion / Opinion : To be honest, I wrote this from top of my head, but please do read this and don't give it a down. I actually am studying some new meta that might work, but not good enough to be a professional. I do understand that some people think that Sona is easy to counter, but if you talk about in general person, then you guys might agree that I am partially or "I am in the right spot, just not the right answer" right. I don't care if you guys laugh at my tier, because I bet the ones who are laughing at me probably were laughed at before. And it's all part of the cycle. So I do hope that you guys don't mind reading all this, and hope that someday, Riot will notice this.

tl;dr

P.S. I am a Korean in Bronze. Ha. Funny, right ?

Really....

I main supports and I have yet to have problems with Sona. And that's with me playing as Braum, Taric, Maokai, Lulu, Bard, Orianna, Anivia, Thresh, Blitz, Renekton, and Mord (to name a few XD)

For me, I play Lulu (Because Lulu was meant for tanking), Janna, and sometimes I'd play some other champs that are on rotation. However, I just think that Riot has been doing all the balancing and now Sona is quite overbalanced herself.

See I build Lulu as an AP caster support. Sona's weakness is that she has a short AA range which puts her in range of most adcs, maokai root, bard stun, and various other support moves.

Lulu as a tank?

Hm, (cool) people who think like that don't exist anymore, Hitler kicked out almost all the Jews during WW2 Rito kicked out almost all the Lulu support mains during preseason 4...

Though you should consider some legit mana regen into your builds; they help Lulu support a lot.

Lulu and Sona are my main champs supports since I got to level 30 like, since season 3, so time to give you some insight.

First of all, everyone knows that Sona is an aura machine. Anyone who is sane enough to perform 1+1=2 knows that they are either super OP and has "no counterplay", or super useless. Sona, back then, was the primer. Remember back in the days of season 3 where anyone picking Sona = literal freelo?

With both the rise of tank AND mage supports, the preseason 4 changes kicked a good number of "traditional supports" out of botlane (let's get real here Janna doesn't count because disengage never falls out of flavor), and of course, Sona was one of them. Botlane went from poke/sustain focused to kill lane focused, therefore making tanks and mages more popular. Oh, and did we mention her model size was uh... way too small? "Picking to win/lose" is no fun, so that's when Sona got a rework.

Sure, her smaller and shorter auras do encourage more "interaction", but here's a problem. A "number-focused" (she is just plain ol' heal and poke focused, not really much CC other than ult) support IN THIS META where tanks/mages means one thing: she has to build AP in order to stay useful. Why is that a problem? Everyone knows that even with cool goodies like FQC and Talisman, supports still have reduced gold income than that of their laners, so does it mean all of a sudden, these "utility supports" like Lulu/Sona/etc gets to STACK 600 AP OMGOMGOMG???? No way! If it's not for her "delayed" usefulness, then it would be how stupidly toxic it is to go against her: pokes either do nothing, or 100-0 your ADC. Either way, the fact that she's a "number focused" support PLUS the meta shifts, it's Sona's rework that's the problem. It's been "toxic" to a lot of non-tanks, but probably made things like Lulu suffer the hardest.

Though let's be honest here, Sona has been Lulu's worst counters ever since the beginning of time, so I'm not surprised on why you even made an entire thread talking about it. But hopefully a little bit of reasoning behind why Sona's such a pain... wait, is that what you actually wanted to ask?

True, true. Even saw your reply there. However, I do know counter picks. When Kassadin used to beat Karthus.

Oh and by the way, I always have a good mana regen because I buy Mikael's. I also by Ohmwrecker for diving.

All good.

Hello. I am a Diamond Lulu main, and I would like to give you some tips on how to beat a Sona in lane.

First of all, Sona is one of Lulu's most difficult match ups. I know it can be really frustrating (Along with fucking Soraka). The next time you face Sona, try this:

Start Items: Coin, 3 Pots Reasoning: You CAN'T outpoke Sona. Atleast a good one. Whenever you two go out to trade eachother, either her poke will win, or it will be about even, but that doesn't matter since Sona has a heal. Coin is used so you can out sustain her mana pool. A Sona constantly using Q and W will run out of mana quickly, while coin will let you win the war of attrition.

Runes: 9 Flat MR Blues Reasoning: You will be trading a lot with Sona, and you need to make sure that you can win the war of attrition. These help.

Masteries: 0/12/18 This may seem strange, but again, you're trying to OUT LAST Sona. That's your only goal. You can't out damage her.

When you trade with Sona, Make sure that you shield yourself and Q as she walks up to Q you. 90% of Sona players walk in a straight line toward you when they want to Q because they merely click on your champion.

Question, what's the Keystone for that, bond of stone ?

Nope, Lulu isn't inherently tanky enough. It's strength of the ages. You get health every time a siege minion dies, which helps with the attrition war.
