Vanilla League of Legends
Hey I’ve been playing this game for years, ever since season four. I have come to miss some of the great champions I have played in the past. I remember always coming home from school and playing some weird champion and always trying my heart out to make it work. I would try full ad crit Allistar with his 90 ad damage that he got from his ultimate. or playing full damage Taric and blasting the enemy team when I decided to ult. or even just playing some of the simple champions that were just fun for me, like Katarina. the point is that I was able to play what I wanted how I wanted and have fun. for the past year and a bit I have solely played league of legends ranked, on that LP grind, but now I don't even feel like playing that. the constant changing of everything in the game has made the game unenjoyable for me.
It’s not just the champion changes that make the game not fun for me but it’s how they changed them. riot used to say that they didn't want to create a meta, but instead wanted players to find their own way to make things work, but for some reason all the new changes completely disregards that statement. the new rune system introduced last season, introduced so many new things to the game, and it could be argued that it bettered the game. but what it took away from the game for me was my freedom to do what I wanted with this game. The reason I invested almost all my IP into runes wasn’t only to give myself a competitive edge in ranked but to have fun, I had a full set of crit chance and crit damage runes before I even thought about purchasing scaling magic resist runes. I used to play full 30 armor Amumu support and had tons of fun. or even full ad Darius with almost an extra 20 starting ad plus masteries, I could do what I wanted and that made the game fun for me. I miss the freedom of choice I used to have in league of legends. even thinking back to the changes made to crit items, now it’s almost impossible to build crit on anyone that isn't a strong DPS champion because infinity edge doesn't give any additional crit damage. they changed ADC to be strong tank killer but left any creative picks using crit to bite the dust.
Another thing that really hurt my enjoyment of league of legends was the removal of dominion. To be honest I didn’t play dominion to much, but something I did play was hide and go seek using the dominion map. And I know for a fact that there were completely dedicated player who pretty much exclusively played dominion. It was a game mode where I could pick my champ and try things out with other players, it was a game where if I didn’t have 60 minutes to play league I could hop in and spend the last few minutes before I go to work playing league and enjoying myself. But It got removed because it wasn’t popular enough just like hundreds of other things. And by taking all the not popular things out of the game just ruins it for me. Like the old gangplank or even the Aatrox that was changed not too long ago, I remember logging on ready to play the new rework to find out that Aatrox is now Russian.
Although I have taken a break from league recently when the new season 9 patch rolled out, I decided to pick up the game and start playing again, just to grind out that LP once again. and after multiple times trying to get back into league over the past year I thought this would finally be the time that I pick up the game and said, damn I can’t wait to grind solo q again. but it most likely won’t be. be it that the new patch was just recently rolled out, the removal of an overall ranking system in order to make auto fill less punishing to me just killed the ranked experience. I started playing and was immediately hit with a brick wall of 40 PROVISIONAL GAMES. WHY AM I PLAYING 40 PROVISIONAL GAMES. not to mention if I get auto filled, I can’t even rank up my main role. to me this is just a big hit to the face saying, "hey you like playing mid? we’ll have fun playing it for the rest of the season because if you play anything else you are going to have to re-rank multiple divisions just to get back to where you were." I used to play a lot of league of legends and I have always played pretty much whatever I was feeling at the time, one day lee sin jungle, the next day a top laner, and the next and mid laner. and to be frank I just don’t want to play league anymore if I can’t enjoy either the freedom to do what I want in the game or the ability to make any progress whatsoever in rank by playing what I want. I am not the type of guy who can play mid for an entire season and enjoy myself. and because of that league of legends isn’t fun for me.
Which is why I’m suggesting something that I think will bring back a lot of the enjoyment had with this game over the years. vanilla league of legends. there is not one-person I know that has played league for years who wouldn't pay to play vanilla league of legends, even just for fun with no ranked system. I think this would revive a lot of the players who just want to play league of legends not season 2019, because that what it is to me its season 2019. league of legends was a fun and open experience when I could play whatever I wanted and have fun, whereas season 2019 is a completely different game of which I can’t stand to play for more than a game or two with many gaps in between. I just want to play league of legends, with the Katarina on the enemy team who rolls their face on the keyboard and win the game and the poppy who would never die after the 15-minute mark, but I can’t because you've changed it and unless something like vanilla league of legends comes out it won’t be coming back.
