Why is there no option to disable chat?

Feel Like Monte··9 votes·3,972 views

After having 3 accounts banned and over 500+ games of being chat restricted I still have no idea why I don't have the option to remove chat. I understand I'm toxic and shouldn't flame so why can't I just negate the problem entirely? I know you can /muteall, but that really doesn't solve anything when your 1/9 Vayne is in the river and dies to SkuttleCrab. The counterargument would be that your team communication would be limited, but you would still have the option to use pings. I'd like to know if people agree with me or not, feel free to leave replies.

You can set the chat box to zero which essentially removes chat or you can grow up and show some maturity

after 3 banned accounts of you being toxic why not just uninstall and not play and safe the community from you? why does riot need to remove chat cuz your a toxic a hole in game ?

id be pissed If my vayne died to a scuttlecrab aswell I mean it does a whopping 0 damage

dying to a neutral monster does nothing for the other team other then the time you spend dead... its really not a big issue. the bigger issue is the person (the op) blaming riot for his toxic behavior and 3 banned accounts cuz he cant remove chat from the game cuz he dont know how not to be a jerk in a video game

its kinda like going to court for dwi manslaughter charges and blaming the government for not banning and removing alcohol as your defense. just accept responsibility for your actions... realize you need to either learn how to use responsibly or remove yourself from that environment... so as far as the OP is concerned either he needs to learn how not to flame and be toxic with chat function in game or remove himself from the game... well riot has removed him 3 times... so apparently he has the issue no one else... not the vayne who died to a neutral monster

I'm not blaming riot for having the chat in place. I want the option to remove it. The reason why your statement about "DWI Manslaughter" charges is completely idiotic is because when you get in your car you have the option to not drink alcohol. I don't have the option to not see chat if I did I would never touch it. If an alcoholic had a beer sitting in front of them in the bottom left of their screen, don't you think they would drink it?

oSEXYPLATYPUSo1 votes

YOU HAVE THE OPTION NOT TO USE CHAT AND NOT TO BE TOXIC SO THE DWI IS RELEVANT , JUST AS YOU HAVE A CHOOSE NOT TO DRINK AND DRIVE AND BE A DANGER TO THE COMMUNITY... YOUR ACTIONS AND BEHAVIOR IS A DANGER TO THIS COMMUNITY

They don't need to remove it, just have an option to not see it in game.

the chat function isnt the issue, the issue is you... riot removed you 3 times ... take a hint

They have clearly made it obvious that they want people to reform, riot has unbanned even pros like "Sneaky" for being reformed and have hinted at unbanning Tyler1 in the past or near future. If not having chat will help me not flame, why should It not be implemented? Please make a serious argument or get off my discussion.

oSEXYPLATYPUSo1 votes

lol the difference is you are a nobody to riot... sneaky made riot $ and im making serious argument... you are the problem , riot has made this clear... with your 3 banned accounts...

and as far as get off your discussion, bite me... its in a public form.. not a private one . you are the player that needs to be removed from the community... its people like you that makes the community toxic. seriously do all of us a favor and uninstall

So many arrogant righteous fucking pieces of shit on here. It's an an online game. No fucking game company other than Rito bans so much. It's ridiculous. They won't even tell you if the group of people who were harassing you all game were punished when you were just defending yourself against them. Honestly something needs to change over here. Also confirmed, only people who play ranked get banned.

Just got chat restricted because of defending myself from some arabics flaming in aram. as I remember the match. There were another two in the restriction notice, and both were unranked, because I don't play ranked anymore.

As OP, I'm toxic, I'm aware, but the thing is, nobody is toxic to a well playing team, so keep in mind the other side of the equation.

People often flame because of trolls, afks, feeders, ... Oh, and of course bots, I've seen over a hundred bots last month, and it's funny they won't get banned, maybe because developers are so smart than the only way they have to spot a toxic player (keep in mind the flamer is just one of a bunch of them) is from chat.

And as OP said, it's funny cuz it seems you're the only one getting banned, when all you did was to show your discomfort with some player, that quite often, ruined the match on purpose.

Any option to disable chat would have to be configured in the Client, otherwise you could just turn it off mid game and flame. That means that you have to assume that there will be absolutely nothing you could type that would be useful. Yes, smart pings make chat far less necessary, but there are still situations where being able to type can make a significant difference.

I don't believe anyone is so far gone that they can't stop themselves from flaming over chat. You have to stop what you're doing to even type out a statement, and you can hit "ESC" instead of "ENTER" to cancel it. It's literally easier to keep yourself from typing the things that will get you banned than it is to keep yourself from saying them. If you do need to vent, vent out loud! You're not on voice chat, what you say out loud will not be held against you.

You can change yourself for the better. You don't need Riot to tape your mouth shut.

Thank you for making a serious response. I don't think you understand what exactly I'm asking though. I understand I'm the problem, right? So why can't I have fun and just remove the chat and keep me from being toxic? My team has a better experience and I'm able to focus on the game rather than chatting. Once I am use to not having the chat there I could reactivate it and I won't be as used to immediately flaming the Vayne who died to Skuttle.

If all it took for you to change was removing your chat for a while, then your 500+ chat restricted games should have brought out this change in you already. Those were specifically designed to get you into the habit of not saying every single thing that came into your head, focusing on what was important.

Hypothetically, lets say Riot did allow for you to disable your chat in game, but then added Pre and Post game lobbies to the Instant Feedback System's checks. Would you just bottle up your frustration and flame at the Vayne post lobby? Would you flame at your unsuspecting teammates (or worse yet, trolls) in the next game lobby? Either of those actions would result in you being in the exact same situation you're in now, asking for Riot to further restrict your ability to communicate. And if Riot did go further, adding a way to prevent yourself from chatting at all, what would you do if some troll says "I really can't Support, I'm just going to trade you for Mid, tell me if that's not OK!" Dodge over and over, losing LP and getting Low Priority Queue?

At the end of the day, Riot muting you is only going to result in moving where you have the problem. If the problem is going to be fixed it needs to be fixed from your side.

I agree to the option of disabling chat and feel like it would help greatly to improve the climate of the game. There really isn't a need to communicate with your team via chat. Pings are more than enough for that (and you really shouldn't be standing around typing instead of playing anyhow).

Should have been implemented ages ago. Like srsly - if you can /ignoreall at the start of every game, why not be able to disable your side of the chat too?

TaroBunni1 votes

A bit late, but I hear there's a way to edit the League files directly to disable all chat, but someone made a point that you risk getting banned for tampering with the files?

In the meantime, I'm going to stick to leaving chat on. Some people who've flamed me have made some really good points, even if they could have said it with fewer asterisks.

You are talking to the wrong c*sukers. Fk them.

KaDuLeeMinSin1 votes

This is still relevant. Why won't Riot address this? I rarely EVER lash out at a teammate. That is, unless they start insulting me first. Usually i just mute them pretty fast, but the few times where they actually catch me off guard, I start answering them and then things just spiral out of control, cause a lot of the players in this game are just not very old (at least not how they act). The funny thing is though, there is no such thing as 'self-defense' in this game, if you answer back in a tone other than "Excuse me, sir, but i think you might be mistaken", then you are also punished in some way, for being toxic. And that's complete bullshit, when you should be given the opportunity to not even see this bitching and moaning from people who have lost the last 5 ranked games in a row, and are now taking it out on you, cause you just gave first blood (or whatever reason they can find).

honestly if he has had that many chat bans and still has the issue. he would likly just go into the setting the the middle of the game to disable it so he can type... this would accomplish nothing.

he clearly already lacks the self control. giving him an option to "stop himself" wouldn't work because HE has to set it HIMSELF, and therefore he can easily UNSET it.

the same way u can set an alarm to get out of bet at 6 am.. but if u choose use the snooze option until 9:30 am it doesn't matter

we ALREADY HAVE a method to not type.. its called SELF CONTROL.

if u don't have that.. no amount of options riot can put into the game is going to change that fact because u can just choose to disable them.

if a murder cnt control himself so he asks u to allow him to take the buttlets out of his gun and set them on the table... THAT DOESN'T DO ANYTHING BECAUSE HE CAN JUST PUT THEM BACK IN.

the OP's suggestion would not only a complete waste of time to code that would effect minimal people... I WOULDN'T EVEN WORK

if u already don't have the self control to not talk.. then u don't have the self control to not disable the feature even if it was added.
