I'm never ever going Top again...

Until Illaoi gets some nerfs. I'm not even saying that she is OP it's just that the characters I usually play Top can't even put a foot in lane without being obliterated. Last time it was with Taric (I still have to face her with Gnar, might go better hopefully), I built full tank full armor and still half of my HP and even more got instantly deleted by her ultimate while I was under mine, no chance to dodge her tentacles (plus their hitbox is a lot wider that what it's shown on ground). Hitting her while my ghost was up didn't change a single bit, I was her breakfast. I ended 0/3 and she got also 2 kills over our jungler (Trundle) that couldn't do much either.

Fortunally I could exploit my supportish kit and after a good telegank we started temfights which were total destruction of their team, we had a good Azir and their team underhestimated my point&click stun and my power as support. They ended up surrendering.

I'm sort of inclined to agree slightly. I've never felt like I was ahead in lane no matter what I did or how far ahead I actually was. While it is possible for her to lose (her low-ish win rate sort of reflects that) her average damage per game is higher than pretty much everyone that isn't a god tier carry or an AP AoE mage. Her damage is even slightly higher than Talon's and AoE AD damage is his entire distinguishing aspect and he builds three times the number of damage items and more pen than she does. Her E is also sort of anti-fun.

A few things need to be looked at. Not even hit hard necessarily or more than one or two getting hit at all, just noting some probable trouble spots:

  1. Her base AD. Seriously? Your going to give her one of the higher base ADs in the game and one of the highest scalings in the game on one of her moves then put her in a role that builds Sterak's, an item that benefits from high base AD enormously?
  2. Her hit boxes. The warning areas for tentacles and her Q aren't accurate.
  3. The damage of multiple tentacles hitting the same target. I'm tired of getting nearly one-shot by a person with no more than 2 damage items and two tentacles that I have a level advantage on.
  4. Her passive tentacle damage in general. If it were just nudged slightly so that it didn't hit so hard early that would make her E more manageable than the living nightmare it currently is.
  5. Vessel status duration. I'm tired of Illaoi tripling herself in lane and nearly removing me from the lane while I drop everything to play her little mini-game. Maybe shave a little off the time it lasts if you don't kill tentacles? If you nerf tentacle damage early though I'd be mostly fine with the current duration.

I totally agree on 2, 3 and 5.

Azir got diminished attack damage per soldier and he doesn't pollute the entire lane with them, not to mention that he can do things only by having them up, something Illaoi doesn't. #Doublestandards >_<

Darius Olaf Renekton.

All characters I don't play^^

As I said, it's not a matter of her being entirely OP, it's just that the champions I enjoy to play top get such an hard life that I don't want to ever experience it again.

Wait a minute, you are complaining against a champion and you refuse to expand your champ pool in order to successfully beat it ?

Illaoi has huge weaknesses that many champions can exploit. She struggles super-hard against every ranged champions in the game (Vladimir and Kayle are especially strong against her) and any champion who can either all-in her and abuse her lack of escape (Olaf, Darius for example) or quickly "get in / get out" and deal good damages (Renekton for example).

Taric sucks hard toplane, has no kind of poke/harass AND he is a super immobile champion. Illaoi is strong against champions that have very low mobility and no harass. No wonder she kills you.

If you refuse to expand your champ pool, you can only blame yourself. If Illaoi was hugely OP, to the point where she is a general good first pick and a must-pick must-ban champion, I would agree with you. But that's not the case.

And that's why I said this is nothing like a "Illaoi is OP and deserves a nerf" thread and I tried to be very clear on that.

I just wrote down what I felt about her and while I do hope she gets some nerfs I'm not saying she is unbalanced, just really harsh for me to deal with. I'm in no way trying to make an objective balance analisys.

That's your problem chief. If you're unwilling to adapt, you'll just die.

Darius? Olaf? Renekton? Excuse me...I just need a moment to.... item 3123 Theeeere we go. Also an option against Illaoi.

AL0001 votes

yes but their mid-late got worst than average champions...

darius is easily kited... easily got focus... olaf = i would leave it up to adhd.... nothing special... good duelist and fail at everything.... renekton = nerf so hard... not reliable as tank anymore... and of course hard to master because of fury...

Ranged cancer champions don't struggle against her quite as much, but for melee I imagine it's pretty hellish.

they do. I had an illaoi on my team. afk for 19 minutes. level 4 or 5. gets a kill. shes broken.

i've beaten her each every time I was gnar :l all i did was poke her, and then accept all the damage cause my tank, then mega gnar her and boom, dead

I don't know, I play Trundle and destroy her in lane pretty easily.

Ryùuzaki2 votes

here's a better idea buy her and keep playing in your fav lane till she gets some nerfs

Stars Shaper1 votes

My favorite lane is Midlane :P

And I'm not going to buy her, I know it's the perfect way to learn how to deal against some1 but I really don't like her. I'd rather wait some time and patches and then give it another try (if she gets nerfed if not I'm sticking to mid and botlane).

A full health shen and 80% health Udyr lose 1v2 to her while all are level 4 and the shen only takes 4% fdamage from minions.

balanced

Meep Man1 votes

There is always a chance to dodge her tentacles because she has no crowd control besides an 80% slow, but thats usually only if you are incredibly far away from her or if you are already low on health.

Stars Shaper1 votes

I tried and managed to dodge some Qs even with taric. Too bad that hitboxes are not as displayed so each time I get a freshly spawned tentacle or her ultimate I get hit even standing in a void zone.

Imo she's too strong, but only because her mana costs are too low/her mana regen is too much. She can basically spam all day without consequence

Silents4291 votes

The only times I see people have problems with her seem to be when they are fighting her mid/late game in her face, she is durable as hell and can deal damage, but hardly close to overpowered.

I am pretty confident saying she is just a case of people needing to learn how to play against her.

Stars Shaper1 votes

Honestly I have big problems early but that's due to the champions I happen to play Top most of the times which are not optimal choices anyway, I had no problems dealing with a demifed Illaoi as Xerath or Azir since I had a fair control over the fight so she is not a big problem per se.

I just find her too dominant and oppressive in lane.

Silents4291 votes

It is kind of her thing theme though, to be setting up a secure area like Heimerdinger

Stars Shaper1 votes

The things is that I kept the area clear of tentacles but then she just needed to jump on me to get even more out in a couple of seconds with me unable to react.

AL0001 votes

play tank or shredder and you will rape illao easily

illao is no fun because of tenacle and ult... thats it... every skillshot is easily dodge...

best counter to illaoi is trundle, nasus, tanky garen, mundo, kayle because of sustain, mobility and ult...

Got to say that what the last game tought me is that as Top laner you have to be prepared to lose hard your lane and just care of keeping your deaths under control. This in order to make it up by having a better team presence. Fortunally for me our teams were even on kills and our midlaner was doing awesome. It took really few fights to make a revolution out of the match and I have to thank my team a lot for this (and also my support to the team :P).

Nasus?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zx6TMlnt7zc

Nasus countering her hard this game. VERY hard with his tenancy to lose to everyone in the game early on, low ability to kite, super predictable pathing, and reliance on precise lane control. All that directly counters her incredibly strong early game, preference for foes that can't kite, ability to take over control of a lane, and reliable harass under their tower. Illaoi has no chance obviously.
