Put the Unstoppable Back in Ornn

Quick Gameplay Thoughts: February 2

Hear me out, I have something to say. So I heard somewhere in the Dev Corner for Feburary 2 that Ornn was considered for receiving a nerf.

Like every other Dev Corner post, this may or may not follow through in the end, but I am pleading with you guys to not damage him too much. There are easy fixes to handle his current issues as is, and it doesn't even need to be drastic. Now, I personally believe that the recent W nerf change was wrong. That was his signature ability, and it's the defining point of his skill expression as a tank. It rewarded good timing to avoid CC and protect yourself better. Nowadays, he struggles dealing with ganks due to being unable to respond as clearly as last time.

I am not asking for a complete revert and to leave him be because that would be unfair to the players that have had to deal with him outputting enormous amounts of damage. Take my words with a grain of salt- for I am only Gold V, but spare me a moment of your time. As an Ornn main who wishes to see him balanced, I truly believe that:

  1. The cooldown on his W needs to be raised.
  2. The damage should be changed from percent max hp to current hp.
  3. Give Ornn back his unstoppable

There were problems with him being able to confirm into kills, which is why the damage was upped, but a tank is not meant to pick up any kill he feels. Tanks are to tank, peel, and assist in gaining kills. Ornn is certainly tanky, but his damage output is far too high for how high his base stats are. The cooldown on his W currently makes it very hard for any reliable damage to be dealt with him due to his shield being available so easily when combined with maximum cooldown reduction. The ult cooldown nerf was perfect as it presents you with the need to use it sparingly. Should you change the damage from percent max hp to current hp, this would give Ornn the ability to soften up enemies as he defends himself but not kill far too quickly. If you wish for Ornn to chunk health with his brittle proc, his W should not be responsible for deleting health bars. Put the damage on the brittle auto proc, not all on the W. Finally, give Ornn back his unstoppable. Like I noted earlier, it is a defining point of skill expression for what it rewards. Ornn barely has any reliable escapes as is if you consider his E being used to engage and lock enemies down with his knockup. This would make him feel a lot less risky but fair due to his damage not being overpowering.

Again, take my words with a grain of salt. But, I'm hoping the nerfs aren't overdone. I love Ornn- he's a fantastic champion with a wonderful concept and fun gameplay. I'd hate to see him ruined due to nerfs.

I don't play Ornn, but I don't understand why people bring up that he wouldn't be able to escape ganks without the unstoppable anymore...

He has a % max health shield for survivability, a ranged slow with small terrain creation, and an untargeted dash. These are plenty of tools to escape in my opinion....

Besides, he shouldn't be immune to ganks. He can buy items in lane, so getting chunked by ganks to force him to recall seems like it should be a thing.

I understand that the unstoppable on a basic ability was unique for him, but it's not like he is missing unique stuff in his kit.... he got tons...

  • able to buy items in lane
  • able to upgrade items for team
  • only source of brittle (enhancing CC)
  • able to destroy enemy terrain
