Placements

I just don't understand why I was placed silver 5 when I finished Gold 5 last season and went 7-3 in my promos. Not exactly a way to congratulate a player for doing good in his promos. I have a friend that finished in gold 5 as well and finished he promos 6-4 and got placed silver 4. The system isn't exactly what i'd call fair...

I think huzzy covers the matter very well. please watch he talks about what he knows (with a bit of assumptions) and he also covers that this season is being harsher then last seasons.

Honestly what I think riot did is do a soft-reset like previous seasons, but a harder soft-reset. A firm-reset? I won't complain though, I mirrored your win\loss (3-7) and went from G2 to S2 [slayer-jinx-catface]

I have finished placements on two of my accounts.

The first was Silver V, went 6-4, and placed Bronze I. That's reasonable.

Second account was Silver IV, went 9-1 in placements, placed Bronze I also.

Now I get it, that they don't want you to place higher than you finished last season. But what if I'm just much better than I was at the end of last season? Account #2 only had about 10 games played on it in Season 5... just enough to do placements. I then played 155 games on my main, which had originally been seeded in Bronze IV, but which I then progressed up to Silver II. I also kept playing ranked games throughout the preseason.

What's the point of the reset? That's my real question. It should be to move people who are in a place they don't belong. Bad players should not be in Diamond, players who are good should not be in Bronze. Really that simple. Now I'm not saying I'm good, I'm maybe average, but I'm certainly better than Bronze, and I don't belong there.

At the end of last season, I was still moving up in rank. I feel like I was worthy of Gold V. I had a 59% win-rate on my main. But I had played 155 games like I said, to move up from bad placements that put me in Bronze IV. I simply didn't have time to play more games than that. I have a wife and three kids. I'm active duty military.

So the reset doesn't make sense to me. It seems like how many wins you get in your Placements does not affect where you land. At least, not enough. I would really like to know why I can go 9-1 in placements on a higher ranked account and have the exact same results as going 6-4. If Riot simply wanted to lower everyone's division, they could do that without the placement matches. Therefore the placement matches should offer something else, but they don't. They simply lower your rank that you earned, even if you are better than what you earned. So now on my smurf, I will be a Silver II player getting matched with people that are legitimately Bronze III. Sucks for them. Really that won't happen very much because almost all my time will be on my main, cause ranked is a grind, and I'm not going to grind a smurf account. I'll be grinding this one.

TL;DR: Placements don't make sense. Riot please.

edit: Watched Huzzy video, reset makes more sense. Still feels like placements are arbitrary in terms of results. Looking forward to the ranked season regardless.

You are always placed at least a Tier under where you were the previous season. Season 4 I finished in Gold 5 and season 5 I was placed Silver III... so it's just how the system has always been.

It really depends on how high your MMR was that season, since I only went 5-5 during the matches and was placed in mid silver, it shows me that my MMR was a bit higher then it had been previous seasons when I'd be placed bronze.
