Thank You For Bringing Back Originalish URF

Friends of mine that played when the original URF came out raved every time ARURF came out. I played it a few times begrudgingly and hated every second of it so I moaned and groaned until we played ANYTHING other than ARURF even if it was another game.

What was the problem for me? ARURF. Take out the AR and add some bans and this is a great game mode. Thank you!

AR's problem is that you don't always get a champion you can play or enjoy playing. I love ARAM and play it more than SR but ARAM pushes me out of my comfort zone in a gentle way since everybody is more or less on an even playing field. When we contrast this with ARURF there is nothing but uncomfortable frustration because not all champions benefit equally from 80% cooldowns. You join and get a champion that you not only don't play but also one that is absolutely not well suited for URF's gameplay and it simply makes the experience miserable especially as an introduction to the mode.

This time around I was finally given the ability to pick a champion I enjoyed playing and one that was suited for URF and the experience is a complete 180.

Now, I see a news report that this might be the last URF due to negative effects on the player base... Honestly, this negative effect makes sense to me on two fronts.

First and foremost, in the past my friends wanted to play URF despite my hatred of it so I would push them to play other games rather than drag me into ARURF if they wouldn't play SR or ARAM and over the course of URF's release we wouuld play LoL less and less. Communities and friends are more important to each other than the specific game they play so if friends don't all enjoy playing a game they'll go play something else. Often times when they get involved in other games they will not be back for a bit.

Secondly and more importantly, how I believe the rotating game mode effects players' mentality. If you think URF causes burnout you are right in a sense. I am not playing other games I want to right now to play URF since I won't be able to at a later time so when URF goes away I'll probably just do daily's and run off to play the other games. This isn't the fault of URF but rather the fault of rotating game modes if they are popular. Don't like this? Don't rotate.

When you combine the effects of both of those points I would expect your player base to drop after the initial URF rush fades AND after URF rotates out.

In my opinion, the effect of this is that you have the signs of a game mode you could keep around permanently which players could play or not play without time pressure, but instead of realizing that you are looking at the negative effects being caused by the game mode without considering that the rotation and divided communities are the actual causes.

Now I'd love for you to keep URF permanently (not ARURF, that can rot in a ditch) but what I really don't want to see is URF never come back because you see players burn out without considering they are burning out because they feel like they have to play it now or never.

Let's be realistic now...

  • URF will never be permanent.

  • URF will also never run for extended periods of times more than once a year at best

The game mode causes an endless amount of frustration and burn out for a lot of people causing them to leave the game for extended periods of time.

I'm glad URF only has 5 more days left and I hope the experiment was a failure.

I enjoyed the mode for the FIRST 2-3 DAYS now it's not fun at all.

Please re-read what I said even within what you quoted.

I hold no illusions that URF would be permanent although realistically the rotation is the cause of the cause of the burnout. I specifically said I hope they don't falsely blame the burnout on URF rather than the nature of rotating a popular game mode which causes people to overplay.

If they want to resolve the burnout then they either need to purposely not release popular rotating formats (which is a waste of money), not to rotate anything at all, or have a set rotation where people KNOW something will be back.

Just wait 1 or 2 seasons and urf will be the normal SR games.
