You can push almost anytime when needed but don't stan under enemy turret, learn to go for example to get jungle minions or River minion, if you play somebody like jayce look at junglers, if you learn when he should have low hp clearing jungle you can go to their jungle and kill him, if you see enemy midder pushing try to push your wave and go roam. -Ask your jungler to, for example go steal their buff or kill enemy jungler, gank you when your enemy is pushing. -Look at minimap for example every last hit minion. -Remember that if they have nidalee, Lee, shaco etc. They will gank pretty fast if see you pushing while champs like yi are less likely to gank you. -After killing enemy don't stan for too long when low hp as their jungler will try to kill you for sure. -If enemy went to base just push him as fast as possible and go base so he will lose minions uder turret.

These are the most underestimated things by most topers imo.

Always remember that top lane has the longest distance between tier 1 turrets. Keep that in mind when you push your lane because if you don't have a goood escape ability and poor wards, you can get ganked more easily than mid or bot.

Also as it was said before pay attention to enemy jungler and mid lane especially if their mid is a good roaming champ. If you see that the mid is MIA you might want to play more safe until you get any kind of vision of him since he might be roaming to your lane.

And as for any lane, don't ask your jungler for ganks if you are always pushed up to the enemy tower.

If you play with TP as summoner spell, keep in mind that you can use it for ganks and not just for returning to lane. As an example, you can try to coordinate with your jungler and bot lane. If they can get a deep ward and then fall back to their tower while you push your lane, then you can go for a bot lane gank, as long as you don't lose too much top either.
