Yet another topic about elo hell? Riot, can you please help?

I know many people are tired of it – especially those who already escaped the lower ranks. You’ve probably been through a lot of horrible losses, that your poorly performing teammates brought over you, and you’ve probably learned a lot during those games and you think, that players in bronze and silver should stop whining and take the learning experience to get better.

While I do understand and generally support the argument, I do think that there is something like elo hell and it is utterly disappealing to someone like me: I do have a competitive drive but I am not a full time gamer – I like to enjoy my games by being good at them and getting my rewards for them. I don’t want to spend months with several matches a day having mostly a bad experience until I am finally in a rank, where not your whole team is ruining your games. I want 1 or 2 games a day, with a day off or two, but quality games, while I climb the latter.

Now my problem is: all the progress I made and the good feeling I have is overshadowed by the losses I suffer, while having the strong feeling to have done a great performance in the game. Of course this can happen and as long as my progress isn’t ruined by this, I can live with it. But in this case, I was finally getting out of silver 4 – which took 3 promos: And I couldn’t even enjoy it. When I first reached the promos, I was energized and motivated and won my first game easily – and then I kept losing because of my teammates. I fought back to promos again, lost 2 games in a row another time because of my teammates. And in the third run I finally did it. I played many more games than I actually wanted to play, only to finally get there. But my success was overshadowed by all the horrible times I had in those losses. Afterwards however, I got back to my playing routine, won a few games, lost a few games – but then there was another losing streak made in elo hell. And I dropped back out of silver 3. Now basically all my motivation is gone.

To give a little detail: I am maining support – I think it’s a beautiful role and I was very glad that Riot seemed like trying to improve the image of that role (albeit with little success). My ability to carry is limited, but I am not focusing on my impact-disadvantage-because-of-playing-support. Still: In most of those losses, I was the only one with a positive KDA, often times I was the only one who had less than 10 deaths on my team. When playing Zyra or Brand, I easily get a lot of kills and damage. In the said games, I was playing Zyra a lot – being more of an APC, since the midlaner was feeding, with still fulfilling my supporting duties. But the feeding is only one thing: it’s the ignorance towards communication and smart pings. It’s the flaming and toxicity amongst your teammates. All that adds up to a horrible experience, while I myself try to focus on playing the top of my game – for the team. But still: In the end my team runs into the jungle (who needs wards? Many silver players don’t even know blue trinkets exist!) even though I’ve pinged them not to do so and told them often enough to fight in lanes. They get picked off and all suicide after another, the game is lost. I often times get A or B ratings in those losses.

What do I want to achieve with this post? Probably I want to talk about it to feel better. That’s one thing. I also want other people to share their experience – somewhere in silver must be someone who knows what a blue trinket is and how to use it, who can feel my pain. But what I really want is a fairer LP-distribution and demotion-praxis. (btw: I really like the free wins in promotions, they do motivate me.) I don’t want to be demoted for games, where obviously the whole team is like 2/13, while I – the support – am 4/2 with most damage. (Not to speak about tank support games – how can you measure my performance?!) Hell, I don’t even want to lose another 20 LP for that loss. For enduring that torture I feel like I deserve to receive LP and not be taken away – but I would be fine with not losing any. I don't know if this is a role specific thing - maybe you don't want to punish supports as hard as solo-laners. But then again, even if you're not the support, you might be stuck in elo hell despite playing well, having a positive mindset set on improvement and being a good summoner. Maybe LP should be linked to your game rating: If you got an A, you don't lose LP - something like that.

TL;DR: Riot, pls don’t demote good players suffering from elo hell – they are already punished enough.

I sometimes get S in those staple 'everyone else fed' losses, it's a slap in the face. Can I just get a better mmr with that S, please? Cus those games feel like work, and my current work feels like a favor. But their concept is people can have a bad day/game, and LP gain/loss is normalized, so you don't get too rewarded for doing good in a win (0 reward if a loss ofc), and you don't get too punished for doing the worst yourself in a loss, either. Cus you know, it's a team game >_> n people should help each other. n shit.

on a diff note, b5 here, buying blue ward mainly on xerath. I love vision and get the scuttle when I can, try to ward as often as I can, refreshing pinks too, ask the team in vain to help me ward, and I can honestly say that at this elo, it's not a definitive factor on whether you win or lose. Playing with and against gold and plat, sure, they will ward their asses off and have triple your team's wards and kill you in your own jungle. Where we stand, it offers an advantage that's just not used at its fullest. Pinks in the enemy jg do go unnoticed for even full games but your team mates will ignore the minimap therefore any vision granted will be ignored, combine that with pings of common sense being ignored and there are times where wards are plain useless, moreover stress you out cus you get to watch the predictable and inevitable. And then read how it was the team's fault that they died, cus you really had a chance, underleveled and outnumbered, in their opinion. Cancer.

Thank you for your reply, there is someone who understands me. ^^ I like the way you put a thing: It's normal in low elo, that wards don't matter and communication is ignored. It's a sign of low elo and low elo players. However Stick in Mudd said, everyone ends up in the elo he is meant to be - eventually. I don't see that being true for many people and it's obvious to see in a match, if someone plays around vision and communicates with the team. Yet in defeat he is treated like all the other low elo players. Maybe he gets more LP in a win than players with a lower MMR. But I seem to have reached my MMR in Silver 3. My S tier performance doesn't count - even though I'm assured it was an S tier performance in the post game screen? I agree: Cancer.

It is grind, not quality game after quality game.

That's flex que with your friends, not solo que.

Rank is grind. Even the pros lose damn near half their matches at their elo in solo.

Well, you seem to be one of those people I adressed in my first paragraph. I admit, that I am not a pro player and that I don't play as good. But on the other hand pro players are in an elo with a smaller chance of being matched up with people who actually belong into bronze. They are matched up with people, who have gone through the grind and know what a blue trinket is.

I agree with you, that right now soloqueue feels like a grind - especially because good gameplay is not rewarded. And I assume it's even worse in low elo. From my experience it rarely matters how I play. I lose, even though I play clutch and remain calm and friendly, because my teammates (3 or 4 of them) simply feed, ignore any communication attempts and have no idea about basic game mechanics. Then again I win games, because the enemy team is even worse or my teammates are playing ok - even if I have a bad game. From my perspective I win if I play bad, I lose if I play good.

And I'm adressing Riot with this, since I think they could do a better job about making the solo queue experience fairer and give the feedback that is more accurate to the player's performance - I mean there are already champion points and gameplay rankings. But LP and demotion make ranked a bad experience. I found no other way to address Riot with this than posting here - which they recommended somewhere on the website.

I know this may shock you, but, Every Elo is Elo hell.

That's what I was trying to say.

There will always, ALWAYS, be games in which you are teamed with people obviously inferior at the game, to you, to the enemy laner, and just in general. Sometimes that inferior person is you, and for whatever reason, that person can be hard carried, or they cause the loss.

Climbing is grind, no matter in bronze or within the top 100 rank. Almost half your games will be losses, because that is the nature of Moba's.

If you want to simply relax and play a game, then rank is rather enjoyable because you will always settle at the elo you are meant to be at (after a certain amount of games that is). If you want to climb, be prepared to experience hell at every damn game.

I see where you're coming from. But I'm not complaining about losing half of my games. I am complaining about my performance not being rewarded accurately. And thus I am not feeling I gonna settle at the elo deserve to be (at least not in a reasonable amount of time/or with a reasonable amount of effort - after all LoL is my game, not my profession). Maybe more so, because I main support, and maybe supports are meant to stay in low elo unless they get carried by a good laner - since it doesn't matter if the supports play good or bad, nor are they rewarded for it. However, I think Riot could do better at rewarding game performances within the ranking system - not only for supports. Don't you think so too?
