I feel like runes shouldn't deal damage

I miss when all the damage I dealt was my own damage and champs weren't balanced around runes.

I’m fine with runes doing damage, just not as much as having a 5th ability.

Then remove all the runes or what? If you want runes for defense like aftershock, conditioning, bone plating, nullifying orb, etc. then you have to accept that there are runes for offense as well. It cannot work one-sidedly.
