Aren't passives suppose to be unique

Ahri's whole passive is getting 20% movement speed if she hits a champion with 2 abilities. Akali is gonna be getting Ahri's 20% movement speed on her shroud ability, meanwhile still having a new and unique passive not yet seen on another champion. I have an issue with Ahri's whole passive being "x" but you give other champions "y+z+x" on one ability. But then Akali is still getting a really cool passive "p" that is gonna go with her class of champion and her style.

Other examples of passives: Ekko's passive is a 3 hit passive that isn't just autos and isn't super hard to proc. A simple e+q+aa will qualify to proc his passive bonus damage. Also Ekko will get at least 50% bonus movement speed. Issue here is Ekko's passive is "x" but better and has bonus damage on it. Zoe, gets a lichbane-like passive helping her weave extra damage hopefully into her combo, if she needs it. Zed's passive is doing more damage to you if you're below 50% health helping him to kill you and pop that ult death mark. There's way more examples to look at just not time.

I have no like hate on the champs I used as examples and I'm not trying to call any champ overloaded really. I just don't like that they are gonna keep this 20% movement as Ahri's -entire- passive, but then we just give out 20% movement speed for champion's abilities. They swapped the q movement speed with the old healing passive, the healing passive was unique, but it had bad scaling it was never very noticeable until decently into the game. You usually just see champions with passives they utilize at all stages of the game working with their entire kit. Ahri's passive doesn't do this, isn't unique, and champions that have movement speed on their passives are usually better number wise. (Or have the movement speed somewhere else in their kit)
A lot of assassins, mage or not, have some sort of passive to help them in their role wether its damage or some sort of property unique to them. If the extra movement speed really worked for Ahri and helped her do her job, you would see people nimbus cloak being taken on her. Which is a big issue for me, nimbus cloak can work with Ahri kit better than her actual passive.

However, I'm against the idea that Ahri needs extra movement speed in her kit to flow better. What I really want to see is a new unique passive that goes with the kit better because at this point Akali's rework is gonna use Ahri's passive better than the fox ever could. Meanwhile Akali will still have a unique champion passive that also works with her kit, and overall goal as a champion.

(Not trying to say nimbus cloak is what you should take on Ahri but I noticed that it actually flows better with your ultimate gives more movement speed and all you sacrifice is either mana flow band or nullifying orb. Meanwhile Ahri's current passive is no where near as much movement speed and you sacrifice a whole champions passive...)

Passives are often the least unique part of a champion's kit actually. If a champion has a boring or weak passive, it is usually an indicator that the rest of their kit is rather strong.

Alistar Amumu Blitzcrank Heimerdinger TahmKench are perfect examples of this.

Ahri's passive is the way it is because her old passive was swapped with the passive effect currently on her Q, except with edits so that it works as a passive.

I think on certain champions you have a point but on a lot of other champions I think the point of the passive being unique still stands. I apologize if I worded it as "most unique part of their kit" I was only going for unique in general helping with the kit.

I don't think Ahri is one of those champions considering her passive is so... generic to be truthful.

She has movement speed because she is a hybrid "Kite Mage" and "AP Assassin", both of which need mobility to function.

That's where it being generic becomes the problem, because when the kit isn't rather strong other champions in the class become just better options. That's reason Ahri got reworked, and what they've done is switched the q and healing passive places. I'm not sure if I'm wording it correctly, but the issue is as you stated they swapped the passive move speed effect with the q healing. You're basically saying switching around stuff on a champion because it's not preforming as well as others in its class is good enough. Which I don't understand because thats not what a rework is suppose to do.

I understand what you're trying to say about why she has movement speed but you're still ignoring that fact that the 20% is still out done by things like nimbus cloak, passives with more movement speed(ekko), her ultimate is 3 dashes, that is the "kite" part. You're completely passing over the remanding fact of there's better options which is one of the reason why champions eventually need to be reworked.

Ahri is already falling back down to where she was before the rework because they swapped the passives on q and w. Not fixing the problem of she is being outclassed by assassins who are more well suited. Ahri might be the first example of riot trying to swap things around on a champion and call it a rework. They gave her a charm amp but lowered the damage on abilities.

Simply:

  • swap q and w passive (this cancels itself out)
  • give charm amplified damage (this feels very good at certain parts of the game but sometimes you do still lack the tools to kill depending on the game)
  • make abilities themselves do less damage (cancels out due to they gave us charm amp)

So within the Ahri rework they basically swapped two things around, gave something nice, but make the champion itself have to compensate for the one nice thing. But other champions get reworked, -usually- nothing is "swapped" but the champion gets many new things and you see compensation where? Example: Aatrox rework has a swap sort of because the revive was put into the ultimate no longer the passive but he still got many new things and doesn't have to compensate. His new passive I'm not sure if he actually had bonus damage/kinda grievous wounds before so if he didn't. It's sorta a swap but not completely they moved something to the ultimate but then give the champion a passive to help him.

Ahri just needs a real passive, I'd rather of kept the old one and added the current one as a passive to her Q.
