So does this mean 2 mid laners now?

As a support main I take the time to learn as much as I can to improve my own skill in the support role. When I am playing support I try to give my ADC as many opportunities to obtain gold as possible. I let them get the last hits on wards, (if able) give them the last hit on kills, solo tower gold, things like that, but i have noticed a little bit of a trend that has been happening a lot in most of my games recently.

Many other "supports" are just mid lane champions shoved into the support role and the player doesn't even try to take the time to learn the support role at all. Many of these champions only build one support item and that would be the quest item to obtain wards later on in the game, after the 2nd tier quest item they build full ability power and basically become another mid laner towards the mid-game point of the game.

As someone who has taken the time and dedication to learn the way to support, i feel as though all this work I am putting into the game doesn't really amount to anything if someone else is just going to neglect the way to play the role correctly and just play team death match. I understand auto-fill is a feature in league of legends but why is it when someone is auto-filled, they immediately disregard the meta, play and build champions like they get mid, and then not be punished for it?

So, my question to riot games is Is league of legends turning into a game where it doesn't matter if you build full ability power just as long as you have wards in your inventory? and i say "inventory" because of the fact that in many games today, the enemy team had an auto-filled support and their vision score was significantly lower than that of an average support's vision score, and i mean a vision score of 20 in a 45 minute game.

Also, Does this mean the support meta of this game is over and its time for 2 mid laners?

Depends on ELO.

I'm sure in higher ELOs real supports can put in a lot more work.

Anyone can play mid. It is not like you don't see something like Taric Jungle builds on mobafire. As long as you have something that counters other team it is viable. There are no "real" supports, if you have Volibear or Alistair bot as supports, Zyra is a good pick.

The higher the elo, the more you'll notice a difference in play in regard to a support main vs an autofilled support I'd assume. A support main who plays playmaking champions would most likely punish significantly harder against an autofilled support player who is playing Lux for example. I would say though that if you are autofilled, play something you know rather than playing something that is new. Support is the easiest role in theory, but that doesn't mean you'll land all your skillshots and know the timings on every champion played in the support role. I personally play a select few champions in mid lane, but I'd rather play one of those select few champions or a champion that's very similar to those champions rather than someone like Thresh due to nonfamiliarity with the champion or champions like Thresh. That also goes for build paths for champions that you prefer.

I like this topic a lot, so kudos to you OP :).

But here is the thing. People will always try out new stuff to see if it works or not (adc jungle, rengar/zin zhao/lee sin mid, apc [ziggs] bot etc). Also, we have no control over what other people do or play. We also do not have the right to tell people the "correct" way to play a role.

I have played every type of support. Blitz/leona/alistar, morg/lulu/soraka and brand/zyra. It all depends on what you wanna do and how you wanna play. Now AP supports going full AP serves several purposes. First is kill-pressure in lane. A Zyra/Ashe combo or brand vs braum is insane. Second, if you manage to get so far ahead in laning phase, why not become a champ that adds more to teamfights and/or put pressure on enemy team all by yourself. A brand support who can one-shot a solo farming adc is not something you want on your team? Or a Zyra ulti in teamfights who wreckes the enemy team?

Now there are also other reasons people play these AP support. One is, people dont like to support, just like to play their own game like they play mid. Nothing to do about that. Second, not everyone have/know how to play support champs. If a mid gets support role, but only wants to play lux/annie/veigar, they will pick that champion. Period. Third, score vision is a game fundamental not everyone follows, whether you are support, mid, jungle or whatever. Every role can get a good vision score, if they have the mindset for it.

Also, last point. League have always been a game where you can build whatever you want, as long as you can make it work. Full AP rengar, one-punch man blitz jungle, adc ahri, tank soraka top. Just because it is called the support role doesnt really mean 100% support. Same as when the ADC doesnt carry a game.
