My thesis on Volibear: Inconsistencies in mechanics, & how to make him fun & eligible for pro play

I love playing as Volibear, but until this patch, it has been very difficult to advance against good players with him due to his limitations. There is a lot in here, but I promise it's all valuable and noteworthy. First things first, let's address the unfairness.

Inconsistencies in gameplay mechanics:

The healing on Volibear's passive is increased by Spirit Visage and reduced by both grievous wounds and ignite, but it is not increased by Forbidden idol, Ardent Censer, Redemption, Salvation, or Mikael's Crucible. Those items are supposed to add 8, 10, 10, 10 , and 20 percent to a champion's heal power, respectively. What is interesting though, is if you have spirit visage and either of the increased healing items, the extra healing that spirit visage gives is then increased by the percentage of the additional item.

EXAMPLE A level 18 Volibear with 3 Ruby crystals has 2562 HP. When his passive goes off, each tic of his heal is worth 66 health. Same as above and a Mikaels (+20% heal power) also has 2562 HP, each tic of his heal as being 68 health. (+3.03%, 16.97% less than what it shoud be) A level 18 Volibear with a Spirit Visage has 2562 HP. When his passive goes off, each tic of his heal is worth 88 health. (+30% of total heal, working as intended) A level 18 Volibear with a SV, and Mika has 2562 HP. When his passive goes off, each tic of his heal is worth 91 health. (+37.88%, 18.12% < what it should be)

If the math seems weird, that is because Mika and Spirit Visage are supposed to stack multiplicatively

Inconsistency 2

The Revitalize rune in the Resolve tree has ZERO affect on Volibear's passive. For reference, the revitalize rune gives:

PASSIVE: Grants 5% Heal power and Shield Power. Outgoing healing and outgoing shielding is increased by 10% versus targets below 40% health. Incoming healing, incoming shielding, self healing and self shielding are increased by 10% while you are below 40% health.

When I first saw this rune, I knew that it would be beautiful on Volibear. But again, it has ZERO affect on him

Inconsistency 3

The Iron Skin and Mirror Shell runes are supposed to provide +5% armor and +5% magic resistance (respectively) for 3 seconds whenever a champ heals for at least 20 HP. I again thought this would be perfect for Volibear, but his passive does not proc these runes at all, making them a wasted pick.

Making Volibear fun & eligible for pro play

I will make another thread about this. For now, please focus on getting these inconsistencies fixed. Thank you all for your time reading this.

Aeh, your **Inconsistencys 1 and 2 ** are just how Volibear's passive is coded and something you misunderstand i believe: His passive is health regeneration basicly, not healing. So it is like Mundo passive and Ult, Garen Passive, SInged Ult and other few abilitys, described here: http://leagueoflegends.wikia.com/wiki/Health_regeneration What you suppose what is healing is this: http://leagueoflegends.wikia.com/wiki/Healing And Heal/Shieldpower both by the items and the Rune Revitalize is just for Heals and Shields and not for Health regeneration. Spirit Visage is for Health regeneration too and Grievious Wounds (Ignite is this basicly) decreases this too. http://leagueoflegends.wikia.com/wiki/Heal_and_shield_power Can't say much about Inconsistency 3 cause it says "restore". Could be just Healing, could be lifesteal and Spellvamp and other Lifedrains too, but basicly it is not Health regeneration. But this is the smallest evil cause these 2 runes probably either gonna get buffed or replaced in near future. I could also be wrong but thats how it is statet in the wiki and how Volibears passive text says it (says nothing about healing, it says regenerate).
