Please add some forgiveness for 4v5 matches

So I've heard this said on a forum thread before and quickly shot down by other players with "it would be abused".

I just played a game where we were winning handily and would have if our jungle hadn't gone afk. We still held out pretty well 4v5 for way longer than should have. Then at the end of the game (I was at 9 LP) I was demoted. A game my team would have easily won and I was doing my best to carry.

The players claiming it would be abused say if you're about to lose a game have someone on your team quit to "save LP". How would this be abused in solo que? If not reduced LP loss, could it at least be impossible to drop a division on an afk loss? Seems really unfair to be punished because you wind up in an unwinnable game.

If you vote no please give a reason as I don't see any logic to this current situation. If afk'ers / game leavers are punished for doing so, it's not likely that some stranger is going to take a loss so other strangers don't.

The main issue with late abandonment loss protection (which DotA doesn't have either, despite having loss protection for early abandons) is that the game has already been largely decided by the time a player quits. While sometimes you have a player whose computer explodes, most of the time you have a ragequit where a player has given up on the game. That sort of situation ought to be a loss; if a player in that emotional state were somehow forced to play on, you'd almost certainly still lose.

So, the upside for late abandonment protection is quite limited; we're talking about a minority of 4v5 games. It's much more practical to enact early abandonment protection -- this is the case where a player never connected to the game or had an unplayable connection before the game has really started.

Probably the biggest problem is that such a rule creates an incentive for players to go toxic on their struggling teammates in order to try to get them to ragequit.

You will also have a problem in high elo play because the player pool is small enough that most of the time there are friends in queue.

Nothing is more rage inducing than being the champion that loaded in to the game at 15 minutes only to get focused by the enemy team for the remainder of your game. This issue, in my opinion, is more toxic to the game than anything your team, or the enemy, can say.

I honestly suspect a lot of this could be solved by making a surrender vote 3/5 rather than 4/5. Too many games I've been dragged along a path with no REASONABLE* path to victory, just to lose 20 minutes later.

*Look, just because they CAN throw at baron doesn't mean they WILL, or that my team, who have been losing hard in the last 20 minutes, will suddenly turn into five Insecs. not gonna happen.
