Laugh spam

You know those players who love to continuously make their champ laugh? They're annoying, aren't they? And you know those special scratch-the-brain laughs like Lux has? They're very annoying, aren't they? Isn't constantly irritating our ear canals considered toxic behaviour? It should be. Now i'm not saying to remove the laugh emote, but maybe give it a cooldown or something. Because as it is, i can't stand the constant spamming, especially when it's coming from my team/lane partner and i can't get rid of it like i do for the opposing team by using the fog of war.

I agree wholeheartedly, spamming emotes like laugh is definitely toxic. It's not only annoying, but severely disrespectful to the other players. I've seen people get reported by their own teammates for this kind of unsportsmanlike conduct. Sure, now and then when I have players trapped behind tower I'll click an emote once or twice, but never just sit there spam-clicking. Or after a free red-buff delivery from the enemy jungler.

Grant-it, there are a few special cases that are simply amusing for completely unrelated reasons, such as Braum and Nami for example.

Just mute champions in the game menu if they're distracting.

Now that's just being lazy.

No more so than complaining about a problem that's within your power to fix.

It's problem that's within everyone's power to fix. Spammers can stop spamming, riot can stop the abuse of the feature and i and others like me can enjoy the full audio experience without having to gimp the gameplay because of some "special" individual.

Personally, I spam laugh because immature people without self control often chase me recklessly when I do so. It's one of the more amusing strategies in this game, and not particularly abusive of anything other than your enemy's EQ.

Trying to put the other guy on tilt is a pretty standard way of approaching gaming. I don't really see how doing so through emotes is more problematic than doing so through simply playing a frustrating champion or such.

So...now we imagine a player that gets baited in by laugh-spam, then they laugh-spam his corpse and continue to laugh once he´s back to lane...baiting him in over and over, leaving him on a feeding-spree.

Is this an effective strategy? most likely. Will it leave the other player very frustrated, making him more likely to turn toxic/rage himself? absolutely.

So...do we want to support a strategy that will turn players toxic, or do we want the game to be about strategic and mechanical outplay, not about psychological-warfare?

You want to police how people play the game too much. As I said I spam laughs to amuse myself mostly but if someone takes that as baiting and reports me what is my crime? That I was amused by Nami's laugh or Lux's laugh? If you want to restrict what people do in a game you will kill it slowly, bit by bit as you control more of what they can and can't do.

"Hey you laughed just after I missed that minion. Riot, ban please!" "OMG you used two players to kill me that's so unfair. Riot, ban please!" "You didn't let me kill you even though I've been playing terribly you're just a bully. Riot, ban please!"

Where do you draw the line? I'd argue that the taunt lines are far more worthy of this by their very definition. If you lose your cool in a game then just as in life you are likely to suffer for it one way or another. Stop babying players so much please :|

It´s not necessarily about banning someone, but having a sort of CD on Laugh/Taunt that stacks up once you overuse it wouldn´t hurt anyone i guess. Giving people the freedom to act like dicks seldom works out for the better outside of utopia unfortunately.

Honestly, you could say the same thing about playing Shaco.

It'd be kinda difficult to create a game based on people interacting that doesn't have some sort of psychological aspect to it.

I spam laugh because I see Faker spam laugh, and blindly following what Faker does is guaranteed to improve your play right? :P

In all seriousness, there is a difference between effective strategies and good sportsmanship, and there are also different tolerance levels based on the sport/game. If you look at American Football, there's a good amount of celebration/taunting in the sport, but there is a penalty for excessive celebration. It's a high tolerance level, but there is a point where it becomes excessive.

Ultimately I agree with you; mild emote spam isn't that big a deal, especially when there are far more abusive methods (like /all) of taunting. Plus it makes you a sitting duck, super easy to land skillshots XD. I would say there are far more effective methods of getting under your opponent's skin that actually involve skill; emote spam is pretty easy to ignore, often times I don't even notice it since I'm focused on actually playing.

I don't think it's a problem. I laugh in game all the time, and I have it hotkeyed to my "C" key. It's not toxic behavior, and if someone is spamming it constantly they more then likely aren't paying attention so just kill them.

River Spirit Nami's splash (water splash, not splash art. Well, that too) is pretty, I don't care if it's annoying!

Actually it sounds like you need to lighten up a bit man, try listening to your favorite music while you play. It helps get me pumped up and it calms my mind, also you wouldnt be able to hear the laughter.... because im not going to stop spamming Darius' and Nami's laughs, they are just too awesome.

Toxic for laughing that's a new one. I spam a champion's laugh to amuse myself not to taunt others but I have definitely used it to taunt people into trying to kill me sometimes. Is it toxic to try and lure someone in? I get that it can be annoying especially if they're doing it after killing you but don't label everyone the same just because it bothers you.

I've also favourited that Lux link now.

Braum has a long time before his laugh goes off, as well as leona. they have to assume a position to laugh. Perhaps we can include this in other champs?

There are some instances where laughter is lighthearted and fun in the game (to break the ice with the enemy before minions spawn, or after you make a particularly nice play ect)

But it's like pings, if you're using it to the extent that it's becoming a negative distraction to your team (or the enemy), then it should have a limit.
