When you level up, you earn a Champion capsule, that when opened, contains a collection of champion shards that can be disenchanted for a certain amount of Blue Essence (or, you can hold on to ones you want, and use them as coupons to unlock champions at a cheaper price, or use them to unlock Mastery 6 or 7)
