Why would he fix his image when he creates the coolest and best champs in the game?

Because his champs are also known to be the most overloaded and broken champs in the entire game. I'd rather have balanced champs than "cool" ones.

its not his job to balance them though. He just has to make them. His champions are definitely cool and fun to play. Have we had a single certainly T champion that wasnt fun to play? Sure they may not be fun to play against but once again not his job to balance

G1Radiobot4 votes

It's his job as a designer to make champions who far fun to play as and that are not horrible to play against. No one wants to lane against or play against his champions at all, since they're all nightmares. They've also all historically been a bitch to balance, and spent as least some amount of time as being despised. I never want to lane against Yasuo or Zed, even when I'm playing one of there supposed counters, and groan when I see them anywhere on the enemy team. Hes great at making champs feel fun to play, but at the cost of the enjoyment of the enemies. Riot could just put him on a team with another designer, who would hopefully prevent him from creating another Yasuo or Kallista.

Nameless Voice5 votes

CertainlyT didn't make Zed. Zed was designed by Samizul

Which means that only three of his five champions are really hated. (60% instead of 66%.)

Sona Ping2 votes

Five? Zyra wasn't designed by him either, so we are looking at more of a 75% Hate Rate.

Nameless Voice1 votes

I'm never sure if I should count her or not. I never really considered her to be one of his champions, but a lot of others seem to.

Without her, it's a 75% hate rate instead of 80%.

Sona Ping1 votes

I don't think you should, Zyra was created by Skribbles. Quite a few do but those, from my experience, thought that because they were misinformed and/or working under a "not all bad" bias about this.

No, only Kalista is broken by kit, all of them are fine and perfectly balanced now, you're hating Thresh but thresh has more outplays than Morgana .

He is right, certainlyt Creates champion, i agree that he puts too much passive in them. But then there must be a balance team looking at numbers

MohawkBird3 votes

doublelift fg1 votes

he is always played, yet more balanced and less toxic than leona/blitz/janna

zyra is balanced now, i don't know what the hell are you thinking

most of his champion toxic? i don't get this, only kalista forces hard counters yasuo is fine right now and needs no buffs/nerfs

you just anyway exagerate everytime, every champions except kalista are well balanced

out of viability doesn't mean broken??? he has 48% win rate, pick rate is high it means he is fun to play i don't like to play FCKING BINAR SUPPORTS like sona or janna, press some spells and watch the game. Thresh (even that i acknowledge that his Ww is frustrating) is a hell fun, and i prefer playing against thresh rather than leona where i'm being jumped at and die in 3 secs, he is simply more attractive.

51% win rate, i don't think she needs any buffs, do you ask for swain buffs just because he isn't fotm?

yasuo isn't in the best spots?still in the top 15 pick rate because people enjoy playing him a lot, they don't care if he isn't in the best spot, if you don't buff him people wil still play him and you got a deal.

MohawkBird1 votes

[deleted]

doublelift fg1 votes

why would you buff her if everyone is playing her? why don't you buff champions that aren't picked for 2 years?

Edge of Daybreak2 votes

{quoted}

That's the problem, Thresh is always played and is never and will never be out of viability. Zyra is by no means balanced and could very well use some buffs. Yasuo is not in the best of spots right now simply because his kit is impossible to balance.

This right here is my issue with our community. It's a problem that thresh is good. That's the point! That's what we should have. A game where a champion is always a good pick for whatever they do. That's what balance is! If I could pick any champion in the game and know that I had a fair chance of winning then that would be the league of legends dream. We need more champions like thresh. The pickrates in this game arent even that ridiculous. Thresh is in like 33% of games. That means that 67% of the time he isnt played.

"Bradford 'CertainlyT' Wenban is currently working at Riot Games as an ** Associate Game Designer** of League of Legends."

Actually... it is.

But if he creates a kit that isn't balance-able then he has failed. If the balance team struggles for years to balance a champ and they eventually get nerfed into the ground because it is the only thing they can do then it isn't the balance teams fault.

What champion's kit is balance-able? No one can actually create a perfect champion which is why they focus on is it fun rather than is it balanced. Not a single champion in this game is perfect and even the ones that barely get changed are not popular because they are boring or have little good answers to mobility or hard engage. The community is never going to actually agree on something being balanced. Lee sin with 0 nerfs that the community cried for is still being complained about and is at the worst he has ever been . Ryze had perma snare for what was it like 2-3 weeks and people called him trash? Even riot was surprised no one noticed it. Most champions people complain about are often not even winning an above average amount of games. I'd argue a winrate extremely close to 50% is as balanced as you are gonna get. If we had to straight buff every champion to 50% a lot of the "cancer" champions would actually need buffs.

AMYS GRAVE2 votes

What champion's kit is balance-able?

Most of them actually. Vel'Koz is a prime example as the OP stated.

Lee sin with 0 nerfs that the community cried for is still being complained about and is at the worst he has ever been

Yeah, he had an overloaded kit and had to be nerfed into the ground because the champion designer made a kit that wasn't balanceable.

Ryze had perma snare for what was it like 2-3 weeks and people called him trash?

Yeah they called him trash before they realized that... he had just been reworked and no one knew how to play him yet. Those threads also only lasted for a few days to a week, certainly not 2-3 weeks because the patch where he had that was only that long and people realized it well before the patch was over.

Most champions people complain about are often not even winning an above average amount of games.

That's why win rate isn't the end all be all of champion balance, you also have to look at their kit, their pick rate, their ban rate, and a whole lot more than just their win rate. Win rate near 50% is a necessary condition for balance, but it is nowhere near sufficient.

Daruis? lol no Thresh? annoying but balanced Zyra? no Yasuo? maybe depending on the person but i dont find him particularlly OP right now Kalista? Yes

so 2 out of 5 are broken.

I love the boards, people with legitimate arguments are down voted to oblivion because they disagree with the majority.

On point, the champions that he makes are unique, and easily identifiable. Most players, at least on the boards, can name CertainlyT's creations, but other champions, their creators fall through. I know Azir and Tahm have the same creator, but that's about the limit.

Playing against champions like Zed and Yasou, I feel like I have a lot more options to outplay them then someone like Morgana, Malzahar, or Heimer. The recent board hate has been directed towards Ekko, and he has the same guiding principle. They have a lot of options for outplay potential.

On a final note, you can take an incredibly simple champion, with 0 passives, and still be similarly abusive. Passives tend to increase counter play, if for nothing else but by being a part of their power budget.

TheRakkun3 votes

Azir Tahm Lucian and Xerath (Rework) - ZenonTheStoic Darius Kalista Yasuo Zyra Thresh - CT Gnar Ekko Vi Jinx - Gypsylord

That's all I know off by heart.

AMYS GRAVE1 votes

Just because we remember them doesn't mean they are remembered for good reasons. We remember lots of bad people whom i won't try to juxtapose with CT here because it wouldn't be a fair comparison, but that doesn't mean that what they did was any good.

Stars Shaper2 votes

Couldn't have said it better. I'd rather change this whole community rather than CertainlyT approach to champion design. I've never played (nor like) Zed and never will but I recognise a really good work on him aswell as on his other works.

He always made strong, hard to master and profitable champions each one with different playing style and dynamic counters.

doublelift fg1 votes

the only problem with zed is his manaless poke

but yea, i prefer playing against yasuo, zed, thresh. But kalista is cancerous

Stars Shaper1 votes

That was never a problem for me but mostly ebcause I learnt how to zone Zed and I play mostly long ranges mid (Xerath and Vel'koz). On Kalista.. I don't know. I think that chasing some1 is a loss no matter what. Forcing her outside of the fight usually means she is too low to be of help anyway.

Unless she recs on jungle creeps and then takes us unaware at low hp and makes LCS plays.

14 ABILITIES THAT SOUNDS CERTAINLY LIKE CERTAINLYT xD

JustMyBassCannon1 votes

To be fair, three of them are almost 100% passive, one of them interacts with his passives to determine the active, and he can only have 2 out of the other 10 in his active slots at a time. But yeah, a smart Invoker who knows what he's doing can make shit happen.

that does sound like a certainly T champion

TheRakkun1 votes

Yep and he's so fun to play against given that you have to know what all his abilities do and what build he's using because this asshole can build anything he wants

doublelift fg2 votes

you mean you have to know the game? the horror

TheRakkun1 votes

It's easier to learn 4 abilities with the capability of clicking on character to see them than learning twelve and having basically as many builds as you want because fuck it I can give myself whatever stats I want I'm the fucking invoker.

doublelift fg1 votes

invoker has 10 ability, it's nothing more than 7 ability of Jayce Elise RekSai LeeSin ect.. not counting their endless passives. and wtf? invoker building all stats? as i know invoker is an int. hero that only build int/AD/mana/reg. mana/active items

TheRakkun1 votes

Except there are dedicated Quas wex exort builds for other stats as they provide bonus stats depending on which you have active/level the most. And 10 is a lot compared to the 6 that Jayce Elise and Rek have and the 7 lee has (They have an ability that transforms them between, it hardly counts as an ability).

doublelift fg1 votes

it counts because there are multiple passive added to it. And there isn't dedicated build. just go orchyd (silence item) when you are wex/quas so you can permastun/silence with auto attacks and eul'scepter (zhonya) when you are exort so you can burst someone

TheRakkun1 votes

Mate I played DotA I know what the items do.

SwapShadows1 votes

And then you remember all the other champs that were 10000x more overpowered than any of the champs he has created.
