Aftershock + Lux Support is Still the Core Problem

Below is a snippet of support Lux's winrate on the variety of rune choices that she picked and each's pick-rate for support Lux. At the time of this posting via u.gg's version: https://i.imgur.com/swWeluU.png

For the longest time Aery / Comet were her core runes of choice. Her winrate as a support has steadily been around 49 - 52% over the last year with those runes, which is about standard for the simpler champions and enchantresses. When you account for how bad the winrate is of the lower tier solo-Q champions, it makes sense that the simpler enchantresses do well overall. Janna - 52.94% Nami - 52.50% Soraka - 50.56% Sona - 50.06% Lulu - 50.06%

Which leads to the core point. Traditional Aery / Comet Support Lux sits at around the middle of the pack for enchantresses with a healthier 51 - 52% winrate instead of a 54% with Aftershock. Aftershock Lux is 200 IQ on part of the player base to pick up on, but it still remains to be a toxic play style for mages to abuse a tank rune to nullify their weakness of being squishy or to avoid having to build tankier AP items and instead build burstier ones. Such as when Lissandra would skip item 3027 to build item 3285 instead.

Riot should really change the way that Aftershock works. As of right now, it takes Lux's bad matchups and invalidates her only weakness (a SEVERE one at that). Nobody can touch her simply because she's able to abuse that rune.

Aside from that, I understand reevaluating the shield-max playstyle as it wasn't touched during the shielding changes. To reiterate in TL;DR; Aftershock + Lux inflates her into a problem, her shield is likely a secondary problem to touch second / tap alongside it. Her overall kit though isn't the problem, it's the problem that you can no longer exploit her core weakness.

Thank you for your time,

LBW

Aftershock should have never existed and CotC should have stayed.

Aftershock is still and always will be garbage on lux.

Aftershock was already nerfed for mages. I suppose they could tweak the changes that they made, but it would make tanks better with aftershock than they already are. Are you sure you want to ask for that?

Aftershock has always been a problem period. It not just mages that abuse it. Have you ever played against an amummu, pyke, or sej that takes after shock? Aftershock is one of the worst designed runes imo. I would rather have unneeded courage of the colossus back then have aftershock.

This would be so much easier if Riot just made Aftershock require someone to be in melee range to use it.

-Or-

At least require anyone running it to be within the area of the explosion along with the enemy champion they've inhibited in order to trigger it.

Didn't they already nerf Aftershock on those who don't build tanky? Couldn't they just hit it again the same way?

but its not just runes, lux is overbuffed to hell, they buffed her 4 times in a row last season

Yes yes yes yes yes

Aftershock on non-tank champions has always been a problem. Mages are also broken by never running out of mana while having strong items, but this is just as bad of an issue.

Aftershock should just be removed in general, its been nothing but problematic.

The one thing you're leaving out of this analysis is that you have to land a Q for aftershock to proc. If you want to exploit Lux's weakness, dodge her skillshot! Then she stays completely squishy and is easy to blow up.

IOW, aftershock lux is a skill matchup, she doesn't win for free.
