An open letter to Riot

I like playing games, and I like watching others play games. So league of legends has been my favorite game to both play and watch for a couple years now, however recently this has changed. I play games to have fun so I generally try to stay willfully ignorant of the drama that happens behind the screen, however recently I have become more and more aware of the abysmal state that is the competitive rulings that riot deals in. In particular I find the situation with Tainted Minds an absolute failure. If this was any other 'real' sport I feel that the situation would have been dealt with very differently.

Personalty E-sports has no effect on my life or the lives of those around me besides entertainment, however I would really like it if E-sports becomes something that not only the gaming community knows about, but something I can bring up when meeting someone of the first time, or when making small talking with my barber. And I understand that there will be some mistakes, growing pains, and unexplored territory, and I also understand that the past can not be changed. But I feel that it is also important to make my voice heard, to try and make some change for the better in the things I love. So from now on I will no longer support riot in any way. No more rp. No more watching competitive games. No more buying things from your shop.

I believe Riot is at the forefront of the future of E-sports and what riot does in the next few years will greatly affect E-sports and the direction it takes. I desperately want to see E-sports become the great thing I know it can, but after researching more and more about the inconsistent and improper way riot continues to deal with its professional players I feel like something has to change.

I feel I have a moral duty to contribute and make my voice heard. So until I feel that the professional part of league of legends has straightened its act out and starts acting like a real sport that actually cares about the well-being of its professional players worldwide, I simply can not support riot anymore.

I hope I can make a change in the game that I have loved for so many years, I hope one day I can talk about riot as the company that made E-sports in to the great thing can be, I hope one day I can support riot for supplying millions of people with a fantastic game. I hope day I can look back at what Riot has done for the gaming community and smile.

I hope one day I can tell people I play league of legends with pride, however today is not that day.
