Matchmaking is broken

How can matchmaking work like this? Maybe carry over the queue rules for ranked except make it 2 divisions? I queued up solo as gangplank, however I ended up facing a diamond 4 gangplank. My smurf is level 27, I understand being matched against silvers and golds, maybe a plat, but a diamond? He was obviously skilled, however he didn't know the champion, even claiming that he would refund him after the game. I was just messing around hoping to cover the map with mushrooms and have a fun time. However, I faced a plat vayne top and in the middle of the game, i got sidetracked by a friend. She ended up getting fed off of me and then my team taunted and abused me for it. I came back late game, but still, we ended up losing. Why am I facing diamond players when I queue up solo on my level 27 account? Why am I facing diamond players on my silver 1 account when I queue with a bronze 1 and a silver 1? Matchmaking is obviously broken and we need to change it. Even diamond and plat players who tank normals shouldn't be allowed to abuse people like this.
