Long time player: East Coast Ping

Hello, I am a 4 year player of LoL, and I have enjoyed the game quite a bit over the duration. Unfortunately, the gameplay has gotten tediously aggrivating, specifically over the last two years for no other reason than ping.

In S3, I still maintained around 70-75 ping and was Plat 2, in S4, I averaged above 95 at all times and went 2/8 in placements, dropped (on tilt) to S5, then barely made it back up to G5. Today, I regularly see 105-110.

It is indisputable that the ping has a huge effect on gameplay, and the fact that East coast players are automatically forced to be multiple divisions better than their competition is just rediculous. Now, I'm not arguing that this is the sole reason for my division drop, nor am I complaining about my drop, I am merely bringing attention to the severity of this problem and providing a primary account of its effects.

I am looking into the possibility of LAN servers, currently, and would appreciate any advice, help, dates, or anything that might have to do with lowering my ping. Also, if you have a story similar to mine please feel free to post it below!

Sorry to break it to you but a 20 ping difference is not the reason you dropped to silver.

You're clearly looking for an excuse. While east coast ping does indeed suck, its entirely possible to get to challenger with 100 ping.

You're obviously not very good, were boosted to Plat, or bought your account.

I have had the ping you are currently talking about in my entire league experience. It feels super smooth to me.

If you don't like your current ping, don't play until riotgamesdirect is live in your area.

For many Northern East Coast NA players, ping dropped by 20-30 when it went live (100-110 -> 80-85 in my case).

I'm in Bronze 4 cause everytime I take the risk of playing a game I don't know whether I'm going to lag or not. My packet loss and high ping hasn't been as bad as January was... But I'm still experiencing it. Losing to Bronze 4/5 people when you are lagging so hard you can barely move one inch is depressing. I've stopped playing ranked entirely until they release their league traffic highway thing in March. :[ .. Of course my lag issue sounds a bit different than yours... As Gidor said, 20-30 ping really isn't that much a difference at all.

My suggestion is just hold out on playing ranked until they release the traffic highway thing in March like me. If you deserve to be plat again, you'll get there after this update. Just like I'll get low Silver/Gold when they release it for me. Best of luck regardless :) Don't fret.

If there was some proof for this fact, I think it would make for really cool reading. How much better will a player play with 50 ping than 100 ping? Is the difference more pronounced in particular roles or champion types?

In S3, I still maintained around 70-75 ping and was Plat 2, in S4, I averaged above 95 at all times and went 2/8 in placements, dropped (on tilt) to S5, then barely made it back up to G5. Today, I regularly see 105-110.

Those ping numbers are consistent with my expectations for a player living on the east coast. The rollout of OTT video has been extremely bad for the backbone.

That said, I would be extremely surprised to find that 40 ping is worth 4 divisions.
