Ranked Provisionals

Hey! So just a few days ago I hit lvl 30, I wanted to play my provisionals but my friend advised against it as the season is coming to an end. After some thought I suggested that I could perhaps play 9/10 provisionals and if i do good ill play the tenth and hopefully get the rewards for hitting gold or something and if I do bad I could not play the thenth one and wait until next season and do my provisionals again. My question is.. Would this actually work? I haven't seed any discussions on this no matter how much I search. Can anyone tell me? Thanks!

EDIT: I appreciate people looking out for me and telling me to wait to do my provisionals, but really I just want an answer to the question I posted above. :)

I doubt either way would make much of a difference. You can definitely get gold off of provisionals, but you'd have to play well enough to win your first 5 or so games. Stopping at 9/10 wouldn't really change anything either as there will be an MMR reset at the start of the Season.

You won't hit gold this season, guarantee it. First placements typically see people in high bronze - low silver at most, more than likely low bronze if you just got level 30. I highly advise against playing your placement matches for a little while at least, until you've learned a lot more about the game. One thing most players have to learn before they can climb in ranked is how to control their rage and accept their mistakes. It's human nature to get angry and blame others for your mistakes, but you definitely need to have the mindset that you aren't perfect if you want to even have a chance at gold. All that playing your placements right now would do is screw your account over and get you stuck in bronze 5 until you finally get so frustrated you make a new account and get a better initial placement on that one. Don't do it. There's still a lot more for you to learn about strategy and game knowledge before you're ready to play ranked at a level that won't just have you be extremely frustrated forever.

I don't think it would affect the rating you get next year, however it might and I wouldn't risk it. I know that a lot of it is based on your MMR, or matchmaking rating. Everyone starts at 1200 MMR, which equates to about silver 5. Playing ranked games affects your MMR, and your MMR for the next season is 1200 + previous season's MMR / 2. Not sure if this triggers after your first ranked games or after you finish your placements, though, and doing a few placements without finishing them hard resets you back to 1200. I would say to practice in normals a lot and really learn the game well, do some research on popular champions and find out how to beat them, and practice it. You can easily learn a lot about the game by looking up some stat websites and seeing how to beat the meta picks or by abusing them yourself.

if you care about your rank dont play ranked for quite some time is my advice no matter what DEFINITELY dont get ranked this season as normally you will be placed in silver but you WILL go down in ranked next season because players cant get placed higher than plat from provisionals it moves everyones rank down about half a tier regardless of where you were last season. diamond, master, challenger players placed plat->plat players placed->gold and so on and so forth
