advice against Renekton

Hello Summoners,

In a recent game, the enemy team had a Renekton Top. He went full AD, did good in the lane (good farm and got 1 or 2 kills). I was expecting him to fall off in mid-late game, but he litterally crushed us and carried his team in teamfights. As Thresh i could not protect my carries despite my hook and slow and Redemption, (he burst output is very strong) and we had a very hard time killing him, despite him not having a lot of armor/MR. I know the team is not supposed to focus the tank in teamfight, but with his damage output, there was no real option on that side too.

He built item 3074 , item 3071 and item 3053. His damage output was insane and still, we could not put the croc down, even when he was diving us.

Here are my questions/inquiries:

  • Any advice on how to deal with Renek full AD in teamfight / in general.
  • As a top laner, i play Vladimir a lot, i know sometimes it is better to just farm and wait for the late game, but if lane bullies like Renek are stil lthat strong, I am wondering where are the options, because I know it will be impossible for me to duel him at any point of the match.

I am sure Renek takes a lot of skill to master for his combos, timing and fury management, I just would like to advice on how to deal with the big croc.

Thanks in advance and good luck on the Rift.

when dealing with renek, you need at least 3 champs with decent cc (and at least one with targeted CC) as having just a thresh will not stop him, as renektons W and Q will prob one shot the poor thresh on the spot, best options are generally Galio, Naut, Malz, Darius and to a lesser extent someone like kennen or teemo, as most his burst comes from his W (which has a 3.0 AD scaling when fury empowered)

U sure he didn't build lifesteal? If so, it should be the lifesteal that's making him unstoppable and killing u guys= Deal with the lifesteal.

The main thing you should recognize if you're playing top lane is that Renekton is very strong early game, and falls off towards late game. I can't give you solid advice on what to do as Vladimir , but I would think you could out-sustain him if you play your cards right. You could probably learn a lot from watching streams.

What I can tell you as a former Fiora main is this. Build the wave if you can. If he's using his Q on you, then he's not using it to wave clear. He's going to hurt, but not so much at early levels so you can tough it out. He can get you really low, but he generally can't finish you off himself if you're playing correctly.

Use the wave to sustain as Vladimir , then when you have enough minions, you can attempt to duel him. This way he needs to make a choice between clearing the wave and harassing you. If that doesn't work for you, then you can always ask for a gank. So many junglers currently go top lane rather early.

What everyone else should know about Renekton is that if he's doing good in lane, and he's smart, he's going to roam and mess with other lanes.

I always expect a 2/0 Renekton to TP bot when the opportunity arises. If you lose lane, remind your teammates he's going to roam. Sometimes missing pings aren't enough.

Late game you probably aren't going to lose a duel against Renekton , at least the Vladimirs I remember playing with recently didn't. What usually ends up happening is the snowball starts from bot lane and consumes the entire team.

Playing against a fed Renekton mid game is tricky. You need a lot of CC to lock him down. A hook and item 3107 won't cut it if he has teammates around. I'd honestly avoid fights as much as you can if he's fed and focus on objectives if you're a support. Then again I'm a Soraka main. I usually keep my distance if I see he's ahead.

If your team doesn't listen to you, or forces fights mid game, you're probably going to lose. It's the same way when any other early game champion gets fed. You lose one fight, then you lose 2 towers and baron.

Besides the obvious of peeling him and trying to wear him down. I would suggest: any source Grevious Wounds to debuff his Q healing as well as any lifesteal he has. His E can be cast a 2nd time if the first hits anything, so keep that in mind. His E CD is long however, so when that's down, you can punish him pretty hard as he's got no mobility to fall back on. Having your ADC rush BotRK and/or Lord Dominik's Regard/Mortal Reminder (depending on AR level of Renekton) can help a ton. Fed champs in general can be a pain to deal with, especially in skilled hands. Try to avoid fighting him unless you have numbers advantage as well as vision of the nearby area (don't want any surprise visitors from the enemy team crashing your party).
