A solution to the increase in Inting and Afk mentality

Ever since the beginning of season 9 when Riot tried to implement the "rank per role" system, there has been a drastic increase of people going afk or intentionally trolling in games. I never had moments in the seasons prior of 3 to 4 games in a row of someone dying once, and going afk, or someone gets mad or tilted and grieves into the enemy team while spamming emotes. And this isn't even hyperbole, this is an actual experience, number of games and all. I don't know if the punishment is lacking, the rewards are too awful, or maybe the sad state of the world is just getting people down and this is a byproduct. Whatever the case, is there possibly some form of solution to this ever increasing, extremely anti-fun, and definitely unfair behavior?

I always imagined it wouldn't be too difficult to implement some kind of system that mitigates lp loss depending on your grade, or even if you have someone go afk from your game at least 2 to 3 minutes before the game ends, that person gets a heavier penalty and everyone else loses less lp. It doesn't make sense that Tryndamere top and int into Teemo then type "yikes, I'm outta here" And just leave 8 minutes into the game. And the 4 other people on his/her team are just supposed to take that hit to lp and mmr as if this game is their fault. It's so frustrating that 1 person wanting to screw over 4 people has more impact on the game than 4 people trying to actually win.

And before the people come in saying "The game has always been this way, everyone goes through it", to that I say, that doesn't make it okay. That doesn't make it a positive part of the league of legends experience, and I find myself taking more and more days off of this game due to the fact that I don't have much control in any game that gets slightly hard for a weak willed individual who decides to grieve into enemies or go afk, yet I will be punished by the mmr or lp loss as if I was supposed to be able to win this 4 or 3v5...

I don't want to this to come off as complaining, which is why I also suggested my own solutions (good or bad) to the issue to show that I do want this to get better. If a Rioter could lend a response, I'd love to hear their thoughts. I'm sure they know about this, I just want to know, is there an end in sight? Or at least a cushion to the blow (my idea for example)? I really want to love this game, but one singular individual wanting to do harm literally just kills the joy for me, and I'm sure 3 other people at a time.

Difficult to implement that? Not at all. Hell, give me a month and I could probably put one together.

The problem comes with implementing it in a way that it won't be massively abused. That is borderline impossible with everything that currently exists.

Until someone figures out a way to prevent stat-padding and not unfairly punish hypercarries and other champions who just lose lane by default in cases of surrender, and to prevent unfair punishment from that system against people who simply got camped, it's a system that'd be worse than what we have currently. And it wouldn't be better until it could take all factors into account, even factors that simply would not show up on a stat screen.

And, before people bring up TFT - That game has a distinctly different system. Most notable is the fact that you have 8 teams who lose in a rankable order, and that (along with MMR adjustments) is what decides your LP gain. Someone who got 5th objectively did better than someone who got 8th. However, in League, there are only two teams. If League were a 5v5v5v5v5v5v5v5, then you could use a similar system, and the first team that lost their Nexus would lose more LP than the next guy, but that's simply not how League is.

  1. If you reduce lp loss for a team with afk/trolls, then you have to reduce lp gains for a team that won against an afk/troll.
  2. There is no way to prevent abuse of this system by forcing 1 player to afk to reduce lp loss for others if a game looks unwinnable
