Is something wrong with matchmaking?

I'm a relatively new player. I'm not even level 30 yet. I wanted to know if this was a fluke or if other people have experienced this problem aswell, after winning 3 games in a row as amumu (normal draft) i've been placed against much higher skill players very consistently. In my last game I was against a diamond gangplank main. I have now lost 8 games in a row. Now, I am aware that 80% of this is my poor skill however I feel that I've been matched very unfairly recently.

Just wait til you get to ranked and every time you get a winning streak into series this happens and makes you lose series :P

It's because you MMR rating gets higher with every single win in the game, it stands for Match Making Rating (If I'm right, kinda forgot), when this goes up it starts to match you up with people with the same or relatively close MMR rating as you. You can go to op.gg and check yours out compared to others, I'm unranked and have around the mmr rating of silver 4, which is 1250 mmr

There's a little thing called MMR; the more you win, the higher your MMR goes. If you lose, you lose a little bit of your MMR. However, with the algorithm Riot Rito uses, you gain MMR faster than you can lose it so as a result your MMR may be inflated and will take a bit of time to get back to your regular level.
