MMR

I recently got to Platinum 1 , it's the first season i go for Diamond and the Lp is working really weird. I have a positive win rate with over 20 more games won than lost . At this point , even after a winning streak i gain 15 -18 lp and lose 22 !! How could this be ? I am not on a losing spree , I even was on a winning spree , also i have over 100 games of ranked in my league so it definitely is not growing over time. Can anyone explain how the system works ?

I do notice you've been duoing with a gold 1 player, which would drag down the average mmr of those in your games quite a bit. If you're in games that have a lower mmr than you personally, you'll lose more mmr for losses (since you're 'expected' to carry) than the amount of mmr you'd gain for victories. (The reverse is true if you duo with someone with higher mmr than you.)

It's possible that despite your overall positive winrate that the matches you're playing are on average low enough mmr that your mmr gains are being temporaily outpaced by your LP gains.

Glancing at a recent match of yours, the average person you're playing with seems to be around plat 3-4, so you shouldn't expect to get full LP gains there if you're plat 1. Playing solo would probably give better results if your mmr is fine and you're just being averaged by your duo partner.

The way I've always explained it is you are approaching an MMR with a high concentration of players (Diamond 5). Because you are attempting to climb over a larger # of players you experience more resistance from the system. Meaning that you need an even bigger MMR differential to see the same type of gains that you were previously.

Edit: Totally missed the gold 1 duo. Your current games are being played at ~1850-1900 MMR when D5 MMR is ~2000-2050. With a difference of 200 MMR the system is going to try really hard to impede your climb.

Thank you for your replies guys ! I understand it now . I will have to wait for my duo partner to advance in division before playing anymore duo with him . Thank you again for your explanation .
