Well runes won't necessarily win or lose a game, I've won a ranked game with no masteries haha, runes do change how you play the early game. I have been playing a smurf account casually because of issues with my main account. I play maybe 5-10 games a week, and it is so hard to buy the champions you want AND to buy the runes you need when you play the game so little. >> My suggestion << Make all runes completely free, and keep champion, skin, and rune page prices the same.

Y'know what would be better? REMOVE RUNES Cause RUNES BEING FREE would = Everyone who spent hours buying those runes angry

that could potentially help balancing issues... either remove or make them free. I dont see why they should cost currency. why not let new players test out rune pages and have fun? sounds like a good idea to me...

When you smurf you're more likely to play with more and plenty of inexperienced players who probably don't even have runes and or know what masteries to use. Thus the reason when you smurfed you didn't really need masteries nor the runes since your skill is higher than their MMR likely beginners or new gamers/players who play here and there for fun and not serious.

As for your suggestion, the more you play the more IP you will get in the long run so if it's free then it ruins the point of saving up, etcs. I feel they don't need to as this game is a commitment. The more hours you put into the game, the more results, IP, experience, etcs you will likely gain.

playing the game more gives you more IP i agre with you. I've played this game since season 2 / end of season 1. I simply cannot play the game as intensely as I did. A lot of people casually log in to play one or two games a day, I foresee a fun future where everyone is experimenting with cool rune pages, especially new players! MAKE DIVERSITY GREAT AGAIN!

The PBE is where people can experiment.

Runes costing IP and people earning IP for them w/ different ways to make a rune page for champions. That already itself is very diverse.

Goes to show, hard work pays off. The more you play the more IP you can gather and buy better runes.
