Lux advice.

I am trying to learn Lux.

The issue I am having is vs heavy engage/CC comps.

Let's say your ADC is struggling at dodging skill shots, so Blitz or Morgana are constantly landing their combos on them. Would you just commit to maxing out W as much as possible in this scenario to try and keep them alive, or is there even really much a Lux can do in that situation?

Early on I was facing a lot of very passive bot comps, but this weekend everyone has been coming hard in the bot lane.

She seems like a good champ (love her range and her ability to win-more), but I just feel helpless in the early game vs aggressive bot comps, especially if my ADC is being careless.

I guess my question is how do you adjust on the fly as Lux, given all the circumstances mentioned above? Falling behind in the early game on Lux feels really bad compared to other supports.

I always max out E. If your adc is bad there is nothing you can do to make them better. Just focus on playing to the best or your ability. For more lux advice I recommend youtube videos.
