Smurfing
Just started playing LoL for the first time and my first couple matches have been nothing but smurfs stomping my team. How am I supposed to get better if I am clearly playing against smurfs?

They're losers who can't hang with the elo they boosted to so they have to take it out on new players. Sorry about having to deal with that shit dude. I can't imagine you being able to learn anything from just getting stomped, so try leveling account in bots till you get the hang of cs'ing while not taking bad trades to at least go positive in lane. Trust me, we know how unfun smurf cancer is.
Theoretically playing against really good people would make you better, faster. Your mistakes will be punished. If you played only against bad players, you might think that your risky chasing through the jungle or overextending without wards strategy was a good way to get fed, like many of my silver teammates seem to think. They pull it off a lot against poor players as they climb, then when they attempt similar strategies as their opponents begin to get better at warding and grouping, it single handedly prevents us from winning games from about mid silver +. They sit there, flaming angrily "why didn't you help me" as they chased or ran solo down top lane, wondering how on earth 5 people collapsed on them. Better not to develop bad habits from the start.
The system detects smurfing accounts VERY reliably. I tested it once with the old mastery and rune system and completely ignored them, only went back to shop when I died (resulting in many deaths), bought straight down the reccomended items one after each other if possible and spamed my inventory with item parts of different items when not able to buy full items.
It took me like 7 games to be put in smurf exclusive only games.
I'm a smurf but I only play bots. I prefer helping the new players get better at the game than stomping them. I did create this account though to help a friend join the game and help mitigate the other team having smurfs. But I always played support or jungle. Roles where I could help him, but ultimately it was up to him to carry himself to victory. We lost quite a bit but then he started to win on a consistent basis with my help and then without my help. So I stopped joining in on his games at one point when he could hold his own against smurfs. Maybe you can befriend a smurf and have them guide you into the game?
This is a great suggestion, and you are a kind person. Props to you!
While I do sympathize and understand, it's not like it's going to get any easier as you get better at the game and become more skilled. There will always be smurfs in your games that steamroll your team, you just have to get used to it. It's basically a part of League at this point, and Riot doesn't care to do anything about it. I've been playing for over 3 years. Honestly, just find a different game, League is kind of in the shitter right now, anyways.
Well, you are supposed to learn from better people to improve so I dont really see the problem here.
After enough matches, you'll stop getting placed with them. Should only take 5-10. It's a tough start, but unfortunately not possible to really do otherwise if smurfs won't identify themselves.
