Rework-a-phobia

I Love Ornn·11/2/2014, 4:51:02 PM·43 votes·4,607 views

I may be the only one who feels this way but I am always nervous that some of my favorite champions will one day be reworked. Champs that aren't played to often (ie Vladimir , Yorick etc) are some of my fav champions and nowadays I think twice about playing them because I have heard rumors of a Yorick rework and I don't want to waste my time practicing a champ who is going to be greatly changed.

Am I the only one that feels this way? The champion reworks they have done so far have not effected me and in fact I really enjoy the soraka and sion reworks, but I did not play much of either of them before the reworks.

BTW im talking about ability reworks not graphical reworks ( I LOVE graphic updates).

Im not hating on Riot Games for having to rework outdated champions ( like I stated some of them are really cool!) I am just scared that some of my favorite champions to play will be changed.

Thank you for your time, Kplayer99

You should be nervous about it, and you should voice this nervousness. Riot is a fantastic company but it never hurts to remind them of the stakes when they do something like a rework. I can't really comment on how the two you mentioned might end up, however a good piece of advice is to not let your initial reaction stick around. Whether you like it or hate it give the reworks some time before you make a final decision.

As a beta-player, I've seen how many of my favorite champions got destroyed with the flow of time, they may be stronger, they may be more balanced, but they are not the same: Cassiopeia Evelynn Kassadin Katarina MasterYi Nidalee Ryze Sion Tryndamere Twitch Xerath If you say there is no way to balance a broken champion without rework, you are wrong, there is always another way Nami

Right now, at high risk are really original style champions to be reworked beyond recognition, Warwick Gangplank Zilean

Some champions are so overnerfed/outmeta'ed that it is really painful to play them, creating a false hope for rework Kennen Mordekaiser Chogath Evelynn Galio Olaf Urgot Taric Nocturne Nautilus

No, you are not the only one. As may be evidenced by the other threads calling Riot mentally defunct for their reworks.

I am not one of those people, personally. There are very few reworks where Riot actually messed up the design of the champion. Yes, they changed them. They still tried to keep the feel of that same champion without the elements that are toxic or non-cohesive.

I've seen one rework that doesn't fit the champion: Cassiopeia. Everyone else has a rework that fits their role, still feels like them, and makes them more interactive. Cassiopeia got turned into Ryze 0.7, instead of feeling like the gorgon-lamia poison-stoner champ.

I actually trust Riot to make a proper rework that works a lot more than I trust the people complaining about how the loss of a boorish passivity effect ruins their entire design.

That's not to say the community's incapable of coming up with great rework ideas, but a lot of loud forum players do not comprehend the premise of balance in League of Legends.

the reworks havew only one goal, to give older champs some mechanics and gimmics that will allow him to be both ballancealbe and make them work accordingly to current design values

its alwats a good htig because riot wont let the kit down till its good and offers fun (they tweak cassio like mad to make her work better)

I used to main mid with Gragas/Nidalee. I basically can't play mid anymore. I generally like reworks, but they're pretty 50/50 with how they affect me; they gut my favorite champions as often as they give me new champs to try out.

I'm definitely with you with not wanting to invest time in champions I know are going to get reworked. Still waiting on Urgot, Yorick, Warwick, and Gangplank (who used to be one of my favorites), among others. Not to bash on Stashu, but just from perusing the Cassiopeia thread, it might take a third rework for Cassiopeia mains to be satisfied. Not disagreeing with anyone, just saying it's going to suck a lot of resources for other reworks, since Morello and others are caught up in that project as well.

They've already reworked all my favorite champions, so yea I hear you on this.

Riot tends to kill your champions identity every time they rework, they will destroy what makes your champion good and replace it with a new idea that they like better. Idk much about Yorick, he pretty much just summons ghosts and revives people but I imagine if Riot reworked Vladimir they would do something along the same lines as Sion and take away his life draining abilities. His Q would probably slow people instead of healing him and his ult would probably get a really good visual update but he'd likely lose healing off his W and E, because they'd want to take away the idea of a life draining zombie/vampire and make him more of a tanky master of slows. To fit more with his master of a castle side more than his being a vampire.

It's what they did with Sion, he used to be a zombie juggernaut, life stealing away the brains of his enemy, now he is just a regular juggernaut but he can slow you more, and is more of a CC tank.

I completely agree with Kplayer. For every okay rework (Sona/MF), you get one that either gets the champ wrong (Cass) and/or leaves them in a barely viable or non-viable champ (Cass/Soraka).

soraka and sion reworks, but I did not play much of either of them before the reworks.

I hate to disappoint you,but as it currently stands the soraka rework is a complete failure, she is back to being crazy obnoxious in bot lane.

source: basically just watch any soraka replay in my match history in lolking(you should have a lot to choose from),just watch laning phase and think how awesome it is to play against it.

I'm definitely nervous about the Warwick rework that is in progress. I really like the way he plays now, so I'm kind of doubtful the rework will be to my liking. Reworks of champs I don't like on the other hand are something I actually look forward to.

The bottom line for reworks is those who play them now will usually not like it unless it's a buff overall. Those who don't play them will, again unless it's top much of a buff.

speaking of reworks, I wonder who's up next. they still haven't updated the champion list yet,
