What happened to the playing field!?

I'm going to get torn apart for this and it may just seem like a normal crying session, but honestly...what the hell happened to matchmaking?? In the matter of a few weeks of playing when I could get on, I went from Bronze 5 all the way to Bronze 2...very proud for coming into ranked and getting up that way in such a short time. I even went with 20 wins in a row once....but in the last month....I'm now knocked down to 4 and looking like I'll be back to 5 soon.

Where the hell is all the talent? How in the hell can I get stuck with awesome players (honoring left and right) one moment and then the worst players (and reporting left and right) I have ever seen??? Listen, we all have bad days but, the weakest link in a chain still makes it a weak chain, and I'm being stuck with more bad links than ever.

Is there some sort of pool we all get thrown in? Obviously matchmaking can't match by "Skill set" but even if matchmaking matched up by record, mine is so bad now, I'm embarrassed and almost want to start over at level 1. Can anything be done or is it just time to throw in the towel?

Sucks. But thanks for letting me vent a little I guess.

"Is there some sort of pool we all get thrown in?"

In a way, yeah. You are all in the same Elo bracket.

"What happened to the playing field!?"

Nothing happened. There's going to be variance.

What you are describing is that you are having a wide of range in what your teammates are like and what they do, and all of that is to be expected. You are in Bronze, yeah, but that actually doesn't mean everyone is bad at everything. There's variance.

What you can actually find is that there are player who have good reactions and know when they are supposed to use their abilities and do so, maybe they are the "awesome players" you are talking about. But maybe these players have poor fundamentals, so they lose games and get stuck in Bronze. Or maybe they have decent fundamentals, above where they are at in Bronze, but they have poor decision making so they throw that advantage. Or maybe they have the knowledge of what they are supposed to do but don't have the knowledge of how to do that. And so on.

"mine is so bad now, I'm embarrassed and almost want to start over at level 1. Can anything be done or is it just time to throw in the towel?"

Oh no, that's not necessary at all! Even if that is where you are at, Square One isn't a bad place to start.

If your fears are right and your record is super-low, that isn't really any sort of large disadvantage at all. Because to start climbing you just need to win and to start climbing fast, you would need to beat opponents above your Elo, but if you are as low as you think those opponents are going to be among the easiest in the entire game to defeat and will in no way be an obstacle if you are serious about climbing.

This is of course speaking if you are serious about climbing the ladder. Climbing only for the sake of climbing. The only people who need to play ranked are pros and aspiring pros or streamers for street cred. The only other people ranked is for are those who want to climb to test their mastery of the game. It's perfectly fine just to play League for, you know, fun.

So... what do you want? If you want to play League because you have fun, don't worry about all of this. If you want to play to master League because that is your goal, then you have some work to start.
