Balancing Yi (Yeah Yeah, I Know)
I really hate yi. It isn't the champion, or even the players that makes me hate yi the most, It's riot's attitude towards balancing him. We all know yi is easy to shut down. Just hit him with hard cc and focus him. This however, requires teamwork. Teamwork is something that high elos excel at, but not so much lower elos. Since yi's main weakness is teamwork, this means he's really strong in low elo, and really weak in high elo. For this reason, riot thinks he's in a good place, or even a bit underpowered. This is where the balancing comes in. They balance yi around averages, which makes sense for most champions, but not yi. Because yi's kit fundamentally struggles against teamwork, he won't be good in high elo. Ever. Unless they absolutely bust his numbers, he just won't. However, for the same reason he is insanely strong in low elos. Down in silver and bronze, we can't hit skillshots, can't chain cc, can't focus or use teamwork, and most importantly, can't close out games. These factors make Yi, a late game hypercarry who's biggest weakness is chain cc and teamwork, insanely strong. This means although he's average at best, down here he is God. So why does riot balance yi around both high and low elos? He's never going to see success in high elo, so why bother trying to balance him around it? You have a champion who is broken in one elo, and terrible in another. The only difference is, he will always be terrible in high elo, but he doesn't have to be broken in low elo. Just sharing my thoughts, probably gonna get an automated response if anything :(
