Spellvamp worth it?

So I'm a level 20, just started this summer, and I main Malzahar. I follow a guide on mobafire (I think it's called VICTORY BECKOONZZ, or something like that) and I noticed that the quintessences are the greater ability power, but I find that spellvamp would be a lot better? I think it's better because I heard that the AP rune is only good early game and I only go for the kill at atleast lvl 6. And spellvamp would be better to do trades as u can regain ur health back from minions while he'll still be at half health. Although I never used spellvamp, and I'm only level 20, whereas the person in the guide is in platinum. So what do u guys think, is spellvamp good or is it not as good as I make it to be?

Just ability power would be fine, that's why you take a couple item 2003 before going to your lane. You're really missing out on a lot of early game damage if you take spell vamp. A lot of mages don't even use it besides Morgana.

Spell vamp? Huh? Hasn't that been removed from the game?

I'm pretty sure there was a mastery on the FEROCITY section that gives u 2% spellvamp. Also, I'm pretty sure there is a 2% spell vamp quintessence. Either way, I think I'm sticking to the AP,
