A discussion on Cho'gath

Ah, Cho'gath, the barely played Void Monster of Eating Teemo's and everything else but buildings.

With a lot of other champions as of late being changed, why do you remain the same? You are barely played, and I wonder why, as other champions lose things, you remain with the things those champions lost.

Let's talk about his silence. A decently large cone AoE that, when maxed, is a 2.5 silence. A silence which a lot of champions lost, Talon for instance, lost his dash-to-silence (And it became a slow and still remains named oddly), and LeBlanc, who lost her Sigil of Silence, which was actually renamed. And although some champions still have theirs, Soraka, Garen...

Garen requires to get in your face. And Soraka's barely does any damage, and only lasts 1.5 seconds, plus you can just walk out of it.

Something else that made me curious... a not-so-long ago nerf to Darius' dunking capability, nerfing the true damage to 100/200/300 and 75% AD, 20% more for each stack.

Something I don't get is that Cho'gath's is a raw 300/475/600 with 70% AP.

Darius must work for his extra damage, and although the range is slightly longer, Cho'gath merely needs to just get in close and eat you, which, really isn't hard for him. Because of the long silence making it nigh impossible to escape and if he is building Rylais, natural slowing auto-attacks, and because you can no longer get away, it makes it rather easy to hit the knock up.

So, why is Cho'gath under looked when he seems so powerful with his numbers? Bruiser/AP wise, he seems really good in numbers, and that silence baffles me since Riot seemed intent in removing them, or at least, nerfing the silence.

Although this does seem like a complaint, and, the underlying fact is, yes, I recently faught a few Cho'gaths, and lost.

This is not a complaint to say "NERF PLEASE.", do not mistake it as such, this is a complaint on balance to ask, why does his super-long and high-scaling silence remain when others lost theirs, that, especially Talon's, didn't last nearly as long, nor did his even 'do' damage.

I want to hear other people's opinions on this, especially those of higher ranks, what do you think of Cho'gath? Why is he so underplayed? Why has his silence remained untouched in comparison? I'd like to hear your opinions, as mine are most probably flawed and of course, biased.

Thanks for reading.

chogath is a steam roller. His numbers are so strong because actually hes rather easy to avoid. You never need to fight chogath ever if you dont want to. Darius/nasus are liek that also. Just use good judgement...respect that hes strong as hell, and be happy that he sucks at chasing people down etc. He isnt so storng that he could kill you by himself at your turret or something...you will be fine.

Rylais is a fairly logical item choice for him....sortof...i would be unlikely to use it myself and rather depend on teamates to help out with cc and stuff. But its simple man...if you see chogath with rylais jsut respect very much his personal space...dont think you can get too close to him and survive because unless you are ultra fed or something you probably cant.

i mean think about it...his stuff is either clsoe range or rather easy to dodge...a chogath with rylais is only goign to get kills from folks (like you probably) who decided to try and start fighting him and then realize 'oh crap this guy is stronger than i thought'. Besides that what can he do...flash w? thats a long cd...

Honestly, I don‘t know. He always seemed strong to me, and only nerfs he got was passive nerf and silence nerf (I think back in season 3). But he falls off late game, so atleast he‘s not THAT dangerous if fed

Silences were removed from Kassadin, Talon, and Leblanc primarily because they are mobile assassins. In many cases, their silences removed any possibility for the enemy to retaliate or react to their burst and they could just escape (with a blink or invisibility) immediately after using their abilities.

Cho'gath isn't mobile. While he can do a significant amount of damage when built AP-ish, he can't immediately jump on or escape his opponents so they can retaliate as he approaches them or leaves them. While he can use his silence from range, Kassadin and Leblanc could too.

Something else that made me curious... a not-so-long ago nerf to Darius' dunking capability, nerfing the true damage to 100/200/300 and 75% AD, 20% more for each stack.

Something I don't get is that Cho'gath's is a raw 300/475/600 with 70% AP.

Cho'gath's ultimate does not reset on kill or assist, so he can use it at most once in a teamfight. Darius has the potential to use his ultimate 5 times in a fight (though 2 is far more realistic), so it has to be balanced around being used multiple times.

I believe he is overlooked due to his immobility. While his damage and durability are quite high innately and he scales well, his lack of mobility combined with the fact that two of his abilities (E and R) being melee-ranged and one (Q) is delayed hold him back. Champions with gap-closers may easily dodge his delayed Q and many immobile (or silenced) champions can walk right out of it when they have Boots.

Cho'gath is prone to being kited when he can't land his Rupture. In addition, Rupture is harder to lane on mobile opponents, which are the ones capable of kiting him anyways. He doesn't have any way to bypass the enemy front line to reach the carries and he doesn't have any escapes if he's caught out of position (aside from landing enough Ruptures to run away).

Thanks guys for the constructive statements, actually appreciate them rather than "Oh it's because you suck" except that one guy down there that basically said it without saying it. While I agree with most if it, while in a lane, that silence is still ridiculous, it leaves you basically unable to respond or retaliate, and that was my complaint, there's no counter play for it, free damage, unable to hit him back with skills, leaving you effectively unable to poke him back, and even if you do poke him back, because of his insane sustain, at times, poking him back tends to be a waste of mana.

I agree on the Darius statement, true, Darius gets resets, so it makes sense.

Either way, I appreciate the statements guys, thanks.
