Making Late Late Game More Interesting

I watch a lot of Professional League of Legends and although its one of my favorite pastimes, my one gripe with the competition as a whole is that the gold lead accumulated throughout the game has no impact at around 60k gold. Although creating a meta where everyone wants to go to 80 minutes would be annoying, i would like to see more changes such as the Cassiopeia boot change so that a late game powerspike could provide another breaking point.
