I just got placed in silver 4 yesterday which was 12/7/15. I heard that i'll have to do the placement matches all over again when season 6 starts after Christmas. I feel like I wasted my time. Can anyone elaborate/help me understand.

Jabberwöcky1 votesI may be wrong, but from what i understand, cause preseason is funky, this is how it works.
When you FIRST do your placements on a account, you are on a clean slate.
But when you go to the next season, your ranked (MMR from last season/preseason) is kinda "curved". Like that is what you will be placed with when you do your placements again next season. If you go like 7/10 wins, you will be around the same spot, but you go 9/10 or better you may go up, but if your 1/10, you will be in bronze 5. Its really funky at the start of it, its best to wait a month after the season starts, to do your placements, so all the people are placed, and you get good "true" team mates at your elo.
ThePartyLeader1 votesYou get (your mmr+1200)/2. Then you redo placements. So essentially preseason ranked means half as much as normal ranked barring placements doing something wonky

Squidblimp1 votesYou cannot check your MMR, but it is what determines how much LP you gain for every win and how much you lose for every loss. If you lose a lot of LP when you lose and gain only a little when you win, you have an MMR that is lower than your rank, and vice versa.
But it's not a waste. Now you've played some ranked games, you've established your MMR, and that MMR will help you get placed closer to where you belong next time. :) Feel free to keep replying to me if you have more questions!
