Why have placements if they don't actually refresh ranks?

If I were to create a new account and go 10-0 in placements, I would get into gold. On my current account, if I go 10-0 in placements I will likely end up in bronze. TF? How does that make any sense? I can understand why you should do better if you had a better rank in the previous season, but how is it fair that you could do worse instead? This didn't happen to me, but imagine if you started ranked right before the new season. You could get, say, 6-4 the first time and get into low silverish. That's fine, but when the season resets and you have to do placements again now the best you can do is bronze??

Because getting lucky over a streak of 10 games on a new account doesn't make you a better player :D

You get placed in gold and will ruin every ranked game for your teammates until you drop down to Silver and then Bronze.

There is a reason you finished last season in Bronze...why do you think a short sample size of games should be able to catapult you way over your actual skil lvel?

I am not worried about getting out of bronze. I didn't play ranked much last year, and looking back on the time when I was, I was pretty ****. I played a few more games at the end, and had a 70% winrate. My point is that there is no reason to have placements once you are in ranked if they are just going to dump you around where you were before.
