Just completed my first ranked game in several seasons.

And after one game i'm Iron 5? Like, no 10 games anymore (like every other ranked system ever made) What the hell is this? So if i want to get out of ELO hell (because this game fosters such a terrible community) I'll have to win 10 games (assuming 9-11 lp per win) ten times, then do that 5 times, just to get into bronze? How many hours do they expect someone to grind through the worst players (since it's a team game)? I don't understand how 1 game can judge me into iron tier. Am I missing something? Or does Riot not want new players?

Next year, you’ll get a provisional rank after your first game that’s only visible to you; this is the lowest you can place at the end of your placement games. Win or lose, your provisional rank will be lower than you ended the previous season, but you’ll know what to expect upfront. Over your remaining nine placement games, your LP gains will be accelerated, you’ll skip promotion series, and you’ll be shielded from losing LP since your true rank should be higher than your provisional rank. After you complete all ten games, you’ll unlock your actual rank and other players will be able to see it on your profile.

As far as starting at the absolute bottom of the bracket, riot made the decision to place anyone who was unranked in season 8 at iron 4, 0lp. Your MMR doesn't reflect that though, and you will still be playing with people at your skill level. If I'm not mistaken, they are still making tweaks to your first 10 provisional matches and rank, and I believe(?) that placements and lp gain are bugged currently. Several diamond+ players got placed in iron 4 on alt accounts that they didn't play in season 8, but are still playing against diamond players despite their rank being iron. CoreJJ went 10-0 in placements and got iron 1, 65 lp, which I certainly hope riot doesn't think is acceptable.

It may be more appropriate to show the highest possible rank, then people will know how broken their system is. The math boils down to (at 45 mins a game at 0 losses and 11LP per game) about 40 hours of game time (again, without losing any games and receiving high LP) to go from iron to bronze (which is bullshit since the worst players are the worst and it's a team game). You say i'm playing against people at my skill level but all i get are trolls and toxicity. RIP riot competitive, maybe the next MOBA will actually use true ELO which actually works and doesn't hold people down for hundreds of hours before letting them play with people who actually care.

That's not accurate though. In your provisional matches, you should be getting substantially more LP than that for wins. If you aren't, it's a bug. Even during your normal games, you shouldn't be getting anywhere near that little lp, unless your mmr is way below your rank.

I got outraged because I didn't bother to read one of the million posts and videos they made about these changes - the thread

you can skip a bunch of divisions if your mmr is high enough

If you were previously ranked on the account but not in a recent season there is a known glitch where it doesn't read your MMR. It is supposed to be fixed in patch 9.1 and the season reset on the 24th.

Of you haven't ranked on an account before though you will always start iron.
