Reason we cant do anything while waiting for AFK queue

Ok so I got the AFK queue. Something that never happens --- happened at home, and took me away a few times. So, now i have to wait 20 mins before i can queue into a game. Ok, I get it... 20 mins is fair. What I do not get is, taking away our ability to do something with our client while we wait. I like to shop, mess with runes, mess with masteries, look at ladder rankings etc... What gives Riot? Are you guys planning to keep it this way for AFK queues?
