Riot explain to me how the fk i can afford runes for 5 types of roles: jg, supp, mid, ad, top?
i just leveled 30 and barely scratched to get supp runes, so how the fk are new players going to compete? buy IP boosts?
- expensive AF
- diminishing returns

You only need 2 rune pages, an AD page and an AP page.
For both Pages: Armor Yellows: 9x 205 Magic Resist Blues: 9x 205
AD Page: AD Reds: 9x 205 AD Quints: 3x 502
AP page: Mpen Reds: 9x 205 AP Quints: 3x 502
Total: 10,392 IP.
All other rune choices are extraneous and should only be bought if you don't have other champions you want to buy.
A standard start you just get one AD and one AP page. They're pretty cheap and multipurpose, you can't go wrong with them. When you distill every single champion down to their cores, even supports, they're still AD or AP based (hybrids are kinda a gray zone but either page would still work with them).
9x AD Reds 9x Magic Pen Reds 9x Flat Armor Yellows 9x Flat MR Blues 3x AD Quints 3x AP Quints
These are generally cheap and can be mixed and matched for multiple purposes. You could go AD Reds and AP Quints on a Jax, but you can also switch to AD Reds and AD Quints when you're playing Pantheon. Armor yellows and MR blues are the go to runes for their respective slots so you can't go wrong there.
Depends. Back when I reached level 30, I had those 16 champions bought (although only two of them weren't 450 IP-tier) and enough IP for two full classic rune pages(Flat AD, AR, MR and Flat APen, AR, MR) and honestly that was enough.
If you want to start ranked with intention of playing all roles... good luck.
Though for all intends and purposes AD, jungle and top could share the same rune page. Same for support and mid.
A lot of them overlap for roles. You can play every role with two sets of runes..... Three if you want real diversity......then branch out into character specific. You don't need different sets for every champion.
They are another gateway into ranked.... they are meant to be expensive.
There is no diminishing returns on IP gains. This is determined by game length and first win of the day.
Don't spend it on champions that are super expensive
uh.... play the game? i have been for 4 years...
Focus on a role, get those runes, become an expert in that role and win. While winning you'll get more LP, to start getting rune diversity; profit.
At the end of the day, it just takes time. I've been playing for 3+ years... and I still end up buying more runes when I want to try different builds.
You only need to play 2 roles now...
Most players will start with a standard AD and a standard AP rune page using their two free pages. As you gather enough IP, get pages 2 for 1 during the sales and add some more pages: Tank, Bruiser, make AP pages for vs AD and vs AP, make specific pages for your main champions, etc...
All in all, it's not hard to put together a decent group of rune pages. I currently have 10 pages, filled out (although a good number of runes repeat), and I've not even played this game for 2 years yet (and don't play a whole lot).
It took me a lil over a year to get 8 full rune pages for 8 diff champs I spent no RP on pages or runes just IP.
