Massive lag today

Is it like this every Sunday? I don't usually play on Sunday. My ping is a solid 40 and doesn't change but I'm getting weird lag a lot of the time. The server is simply not responding in a timely manner at times.. I imagine they are overloaded. It's cost me several deaths.
