Drawing an conclusive comparsion, you naturally do minor magic damage with more AD, however, you deal near 0-small amount of PHYS damage, with full AP, so you have a higher winrate with AD builds, vs AP builds. NOT to mention your R shields scale more off AD than AP.

AP Kai'Sa can do a pretty stupid amount of damage if she lives long enough to fire off some autos, since the AP ratio on Plasma scales up with stacks.

With Nashor's, four autos from her will deal 130% of her AP in magic damage plus Plasma's base damage. This also gets you some decent healing off Gunblade.
