Well I am a main sona player, 600games since I joined league,350 games was playing as sona. Sona When I play ranked, after the enemy chose LEONA, BLITZ, Nautilus ,or other tanky sup, my team will started bitching at me and was like why you choose a sona after seeing them chose a tanky sup? I am like, can you just shut up and trust me... However, people don't like her, because they think sona doesn't have that much damage, her heal wasn't enough, her "speeding" wasn't fast enough and her ULT was easy to missed. well but 2bh, thats what sona mean for. If you wanna compare sona's healing with soraka, sona's control with Morgana, Sona's protecting with Janna or Karma, that's like really impossible. But Sona as a Sona, that why she is so stunning. She has her Q and passive which can do so much damage at first place, and healing (which morgana or annie obviously can't) and speeding and a CC ULT. Thats what she means for the game, for the team. And just to Talking about my build on her item 3303 item 2004 X2 item 2003 (cookie)X2 i don't usually upgrade my edge till the Queen Claim cuz it just feels useless to me... during farming with adc, use your passive QA to poke there's adc ( the damage is no kidding ) and you can gain gold from that item 2049 absolutely and switch the trinket too. if you fortunately get like 1/2 kills, build at least 1 ap please. But if enemy jg just keep camping bot and your adc can't farm, build item 3222 absolutely, if not, build item 3285 or item 3100 will do too.( your QA and let will do tons of damage.) and talking about hers ult, at first I just don't know who to ult and if I should Ult or not.

  1. enemy that focus your carriers. ( for example like ZED, REN,etc) 2.there carriers. 3.at most you can ult 4.there tank or sup
  2. block there movement or gotta run. ^ the order from 1-5 as 1 is the best chance to use ur ult and 5 is the worst. Well and I also play mid Sona too build is item 3174 or item 3165 item 3285 item 3158 item 3116 item 3157 item 3089 if your being focused and get really ez to died, build armor as item 3110 or MR as item 3102

I think sona is a debatable pick because she is so easy to kill. Sona may have burst and ms and heal but a jack of all trades is a master of none.

Building ap just makes this more so. Sona is really easy to kill with all in champs that carry ignite. Sona cannot burst a nautilus or alistar support like a good burst support can. Finally as you stated sona cannot outheal a soraka. Im not the best player in anyway, but I feel imo sona lacks alot of things to win lane esp. at a higher level of play. I feel if you build ap sona the damage might be good but lets be real, alot of sona's build like that and usually they are 0-10 with a sheen. Sona's kit itself is already shaky by building ap you just increase this. Finally Ap sona might work out well in lower teirs but 1 main problem about sona is she doesn't have good range which means tank junglers don't take poke damage until they are close enough to engage with a flash/glory/talisman etc.

Last words. I also play what I want thats fun from AD karma top to jungle skarner, but the stigma of playing champs remains. Alot of sona players who support build ap and you are also one of them. So to be fair the judgement in champ select is expected since you are also apart of the "ap sonas" just like how toxic riven or a overconfident vayne. Anyone can be toxic playing anything that said building ap damage on a support is at best questionable.

This makes Sona weak against every support. Sona may have no "hard counters" and scrape buy no matter who you face, but sona also doesn't hard counter a certain support.

Final thoughts would be it might be fun for you and anythings fine if you win, but the negative stigma will always remain and if you lose the game blame would fall with you first because you went ap sona. Meta is popular because it works, if you change the meta you gotta take the responsibility with it. Its like if I played adc leblanc if we win great but if we lose its on me.
