Taric Q mana cost change

Invictu5··59 votes·15,879 views

Currently it's not worth putting more than 2 points into Taric Q as it drains your mana at no benefit if you do.

The current mana cost is 70/80/90/100/110 at levels 1/2/3/4/5 respectively.

My idea is to make it 60 + 10 per charge used, so if you only use 1 charge it costs 70 mana, 2 charges cost 80, 3 charges cost 90, you get the idea.

hope one of you guys at the balance team see this i would appreciate it

Better nerf his ultimate because another champ was exploiting it. (just to remind you how the people in this company "work", I like your idea but it's wasted here)

which one? I assume its not like the Yi taric combo unless it is

because he can steal and dive with it I'm guessing?

They nerfed it mainly because of Yi, yes. Or rather, because of the funneling situation they themselves had created :D

Not just Taric's ult, though. Master Yi could alpha strike someone to make Taric's E completely undodgeable.

Nea1042 votes

Yes, I mean, there can be synergies and that's normal, untill a certain point. But when people start exploiting something, that means you did wrong; and they tried to "fix" the Yi-Taric problem in an absurd way: this is not surprising, since they've already showed like a thousand times in a few months how poor their skills were.

Season 8 didn't happened as an accident, and so won't Season 9. They need to change their whole mentality, and their staff.

I honestly think Yi's Q should just function like a Shaco ult: Removes him from the game entirely for a period. It would probably fix a lot of the situations that fuck over both him and his enemies inexplicably. Also Taric shouldn't be able to project an E hitbox from Yi Q, Kayn ult, Zed ult, etc. as champions shouldn't have to suffer overall because they have too much synergy with someone.

How is it not worth putting more than 2 points into?

Rank 4 = double the healing of Rank 2 for +20 mana when you are using full charges.

If anything Rank 5 is kinda worthless since your empowered attacks come in sets of 2.

Heal -> double auto -> shield/stun -> double auto -> heal with 4 charges

What is the problem here?

Better to only put in 2 points then max E then W since you'll almost always be spamming Q whenever you can in fights. And since your passive is a 2-hit and each hit gives a Q charge that refreshes ur passive on cast, it makes sense to put 2 points (2 charges) into the ability.

The real combo is more like:

Engage with E + W -> AAx2 -> Heal -> AAx2 -> Heal -> AAx2 -> Heal -> AAx2 -> Heal -> AAx2 etc. with W and E casts whenever possible.

^ this is the most common scenario outside of lane really. So it's better to have W maxed so your ADC is getting an extra 10% of your bonus armor than to potentially get 2 5/4 heals off at the start of a fight. (plus extra shield strength and lower mana cost on Q for the 2 charge casts, since running oom is a very common occurrence)

I dont play Taric much either but they could also change his Q so you get the same amount of charges per level (But maybe increase health scaling a bit per lvl?) and lower the mana cost as a result of sorta averaging that out.

SpaghettiVase3 votes

This would literally be a q revert. They changed his Q to be this way so you’d feel comfortable maxing heal and you can add charges by procing your passive. In lane it’s not hard but taric isn’t supposed to be a full on healer anyways.

This idea is outrageous. Truly outrageous~

Eh...

I understand the motivation. It would feel more "optimized." But it's also just straight power positive, and I'm not sure that Taric has that much room for buffs atm. He's not weak.

Riot rearranges power all the time

They could change his base healing a bit to justify it. As long as his scaling is left alone him having healing up more is a net positive and you could cut back in its default power in order to justify him using it more.

ATM his power is very loaded into his E and R and his Q just feels awkward. You don't really use it unless you have to yet it feels like something you should be using more as a sustain ability. Sona and Soraka and the other healers don't have to be nearly as conservative with their heal as Taric.

other healers don't have to be nearly as conservative with their heal as Taric.

That's quite true.

To be honest, though, I would much rather see the base heal value scale differently, as a result. To me, that point is exactly why I'm not jazzed about this solution. I'd rather see the heal value scale differently, so instead of 20/40/60/80/100% power (for 1/2/3/4/5 charges), we saw something like 40/60/85/95/100% power for those charges.

By having increasing power that slowly plateaus, I think you introduce some really good skill expression without just making it so that it's always right to heal as soon as you can. I don't want Taric to be spammy, but I do want him to be able to heal with one charge and still be rewarded for holding it when he can afford to. That holding/weaving pattern is what makes him fun and unique imo.

Z3Sleeper3 votes

If you want more emphasis on holding, then it needs to scale the opposite way. 2 charge spam is already relied on.

Bumping 2 charge from 40 => 60% is a much bigger buff than reducing the mana cost to match charges. Currently he has no real reason to wait to fully stack it, it's better to just spam em off as fast as possible to keep Bravado up.

KlydeFrog1 votes

you do realize he has to aa in order to do really anything?

Tahminatrix 2 votes

Yes please, I hate putting more points into taric q after the first 2. Its so awkward and unintuitive and starts to lose synergy with your passive after the first few seconds of a fight.

Cosmic Charlie2 votes

I am a plat+ Taric main, please do not make any changes thanks

Inorì Yuzuriha1 votes

that sounds rather fair for taric, even though I don't play taric I will agree with this so upvote [sg-lulu]

They need to flat out change it such that he starts with a cap of four charges and additional ranks in Q increase the healing.

Also, you mean four points.

80 mana for 2 charges or 100 mana for 4. A 25% increase to mana cost results in a 100% increase to healing. (Provided you weave W and E properly between Q usages.)

Daddy ReTaric1 votes

It would make it fair since past 2 charge its not worth it. I support the idea.

i dont know about amumu, but does his r still cost 200 mana at lv 3?

Cry more taric filth

Murdercap1 votes

I generally put 3 points into q then max my e. I build tear and i dont have any problems with mana

Nèkomi1 votes

Taric's Q is so weak even at max level w/ redemp, mikael, etc

Dracocrash1 votes

Buffing taric's sustain is a dangerous game. Being a potent healer isn't one of his strengths.

Saianna1 votes

110 mana is more than ultimate costs.. wtf

Profirix1 votes

Taric has been so mediocre for a while now. His stun is relatively hard to land against a decent opponent and yes, his heal bleeds him dry really fast. It is almost worth buying tear on the guy just for the mana cost reduction.
