Pretty good pc, but low fps

BlankOption··1 votes·4,316 views

So I have a pretty medium pc, not that bad, not that good, but with discord open when I'm talking with friends my game will drop to like 30 fps for no reason (at medium settings). And this happens sometimes when I don't even have anything opened in the background and it just drops to 20 fps mid-game. Does anyone have an explanation to that? If so, thanks <3

|In-game settings| Character quality: Medium Environment quality: Low Effects quality: Low Shadows: Low

|PC| OS: Windows 7 64 bit Processor: I5-3330 3.00 GHz RAM: 8 GB Graphics card: GeForce GTX 1050 Ti

Discord is a browser and even if you do have the App it shouldn't take much or any FPS beside ram space mostly for having it open but even so it doesn't take that much toll on your performance.

You got Intel Processor too which I don't think it's bad but usually people go with AMD for gaming preferences. I think you're not putting all the detail on here

There has to be something running in the background. WIth a 1050 Ti and an i5 you should be able to run at least 60 fps at max settings. Try loading your task manager and clicking on CPU to sort out what is maxing it out.

The only thing you didn't mention is your screen resolution. If you happen to be running a resolution above 1920x1080 that could cause problems as well.

Whenever I get into a match of League, I always check if there's anything unnecesary running in the background.

Your setup should allow you to easily hit above 100fps on such low settings. Did you accidentally connect your monitor to your motherboard instead of your graphics card. If thats the case youre not using your graphics card. The only other explanation outside of malware, i can think of is do you have like a 4k monitor instead of a standard 1080p?

No I didn't, it's connected to my graphics card and I have a standard 1080p monitor.

Have you updated your graphics card drivers using nvidia geforce experience? If not then you should. Also make sure your windows is up to date. Windows will download and install updates in the background sometimes which can cause slowdowns. Last but not least I would try downloading Malwarebytes, (the free scans just like the premium) and scan your computer for malware.

Yes, I always update it when there's an update available.

Have you managed to solve your problem? If not, the only other issue I can think of is a compatibility issue with windows 7(either League itself or possibly your graphics drivers are causing the problem).

I imagine almost all of the community is running windows 10 by now, so a windows 7 specific problem could go unnoticed. Out of curiosity why didn't you upgrade to windows 10 when it was free?

Pretty basic suggestion but did you check your in-game settings to make sure you don't have a fps cap? X)

Yes, I did. I have it capped at 60 fps.

Last 2 patches, I have gotten random fps drops, some times down too 1 fps. Zero reason for, happens randomly. No change in resources used, just fps drops down too zero.
