Important note that is too often overlooked.

There was never any ranked integrity. the entire ranked ladder was a functioning mess. the way they set it up required hard resets every season, that way proper high tier players would need to prove themselves season after season, without mmr to carry them through the first half.

This is the more healthy way to have a league graph that has lots of players in the bottom and plenty in the higher rank. and it feels fair because every season you have a chance to hit a higher rank without it feeling like you're climbing up a grease waterfall. even the higher tier players have advantages in this system, with mmr getting reset unless they were already on the top they could potentially beat everyone else there.

but soft resets were what were used, and in a soft reset system the ranked distribution should have more players leaning to the middle of the graph, as that should be the place where the most average players were. middle level players playing with and against middle level players.

This is what a more healthy way to have a ratio graph when it comes to measuring skill level. it means that middling skill players can feel better about playing and want to continue, and it decreases the queue time for high tier players by pushing more players to a higher skill bracket, where realistically they could still perform effectively.

but as you should now that was not the case. Most players were in the bottom skill bracket, which means that the players with average skill played with players with no skill, and players with high skill had troubles getting into matches.

Of course, with dyna boosting in action it is actually varying up the ranked system as a whole, and after some time and an eventual turning off of it it will likely lead to a much better ranked.

But I already know what's gonna happen. this is a post saying things against solo, so this shit is hitting minus 80 after about an hour. Bring it on http://rs759.pbsrc.com/albums/xx239/AfroDZac/098.gif~c200

You are basically correct.

If you really want to have ranked integrity then there's several things that need to happen...

  • Bring back clarity to the ranked system. In Season 1 we had our MMR visible, it showed you what your Elo was, there wasn't some silly LP system that the playerbase still doesn't fully comprehend. Your MMR wasn't a secret or something Riot kept hidden for an obscure reason and most players liked it that way.

  • As the OP said, HARD RESET every season. Everyone starts from 0, or average, or whatever... regardless of the nomenclature you use, it's important that everyone starts from the same position to keep the system fair.

Think of it like this: The Kansas City Royals won the world Series last year so for the 2016 MLB season they start with 30 wins for no other reason than simply because they were world champions. Every season should be new, after all the game is constantly evolving and good players will still rise to the top anyway, while those that cannot adapt will be held back, as it should be.

You're supposed to prove yourself that you belong where you were last year. That is reason for the resets.

Average skill played players with no skill

Also, it's almost never X team has skill and Y team sucks. So looking at it like that just isn't fair.

it was soft resets. not hard resets. hard resets are the ones that require proving yourself. soft resets don't require a lot of proving again, it's why a lot of players are able to stay at high rank for a long time. It means that if you can climb once, you can climb again, and the second climb will be much easier.

It's that the there is less skill difference between a team with 4 different levels of plat than there is with one level of bronze. literally, the play levels are very similar in higher elo's a high gold and a low plat generally play at about the same level, but for the most part a bronze 2 and a bronze 2 can play at drastically different levels.

This means that if you have anything less than medium high skill you can't leave the bottom tier of play, which is terrible because at the bottom tier of play there is a very low chance of you learning to play with medium high skill, and this is made evident by the amount of players that play in the bottom tier without ever advancing, even with the soft resets that should be making their climb back to where they were easier season after season.
