How to be a better top laner?

Action Kamen··1 votes·783 views

I am a MonkeyKing main and got to plat with him. However, after getting to plat, I start to lose top lane more often. Like, sometimes I would get 1st blood, but when the enemy comes back and we trade again I start to lose. Also, sometimes I just get total dominated. Any tips guys?

I've always found wave control to be HUGE in top lane. I main jungle, plat myself, but i secondary top and thats generally what fucks me the most. If you have a lane advantage, learn/practice freezing it in a spot to YOUR advantage. And then just zone them off the wave. This sets you up for more kill pressure with your jungler. It's def not as easy of a tip as some others might give you but i strongly believe if you get good at wave control top lane you will see some improvements.

If you do get first blood, use that to snowball yourself while oppressing your opponent. You say you lose in trades after getting first blood. Are you backing and buying items with your first blood gold? If you are, you should be able to win the trade with a gold advantage.

I know I'm noob trash, but some things that work for me are

  1. wave control-freezing when possible and letting a wave slow push to where you want/forcing them to overextend-you can also keep them a little bit out of their tower so you can poke and trade but they're shoved in pretty hard

  2. not staying in lane-back when they do or you shoved them in-do a tp gank if possible or just shove them in again and go mid

In regards to others mentioning minion wave control.

Also note and respect level ups as well as items for powerspikes on you and your opponent.

We're all guilty of not respecting those moments when jax is pre-6 and then gets level 6 and turns the tables on you.
