Can someone explain to me how the ranked system works?

I went 10 - 0 and got placed in Bronze V.

I started B3 last seasons and went all over bronze to end up back in B3 but my performance in placements was much better this year and I actually won every single placement. Could it be because I duo queue a lot?

Actually yes dou q does inflate your mmr a bit, but that is not the reason for your rank drop this year riot did a rather harsher reset that past years as such everyone is falling in ranked by some degree or another
