Flaming needs to be stopped

I'm sure somewhere there's a post where somebody more eloquent than myself has stated what I'm about to, but because I can't find it, I'll take my best shot. The tone of this post isn't angry, it's not frustrated, it's not even mildly ill-tempered. It's tired...because I'm tired of being in games where people rant and rave and rage at everything from teammates, to opponents, to riot, and everything else they can possibly rage at. It's nothing new. In fact, it's VERY VERY old. I login to league on almost a daily basis. I play anywhere from 1 to 15 games in a day. The actual number depends on how long it takes for me to get tired of people who rage. It's the deciding factor on how long I can play your game Riot. And that doesn't just extend to a day to day basis anymore. This community is ACTIVELY ruining the gaming experience I have chosen your game for. Which means that I'll stop choosing your game. Which is a little depressing. I've given a lot of time, energy, and money playing this game. And overall it's been a positive experience. I get to play with my brother who lives far a way, and I get to play a game that's enjoyable and competitive. Those are all GREAT aspects of your game. But the community is beginning to outshine those good aspects. And that's something that needs looked at.

All great games die. WoW is on its way out right now, and that was the GREATEST game in its hayday. I genuinely believe that unless something changes to how Riot handles the people who are ruining the experience for someone in almost EVERY SINGLE GAME, it will be the sole cause for this games downfall. I know you recently changed the way people receive bans, and I'm not entirely sure how it works. What I do know, is that I report every person who rages on my team in every game I have them. I also know that in the countless games I've played, I've only ever once received a notification saying that the person I recently reported has been punished. And to some extent (probably a large one) I'm sure that's because the game doesn't tell you every time someone has been punished by the tribunal(?) However I'm also fairly sure that the punishing is too lax. If it wasn't lax, we wouldn't have as widespread a problem.

So what needs done? I honestly don't know. I question the validity of banning and whether it's an effective tool to stop people from (I'd say tarnishing the reputation, but at this point it's well beyond tarnished) driving the now famously and outrageously awful community that League of Legends is so well known by. But I'm also not sure what an alternative punishment would be. I know there's chat restrictions, but that can't possibly work. If anything it makes those people who have already proven their inclination towards making the game a bad experience for others more likely to do so. If I can't verbally abuse someone, I'll troll and feed until they hate me even more. The only thing I know, is that something needs to change. Your game is getting ruined by the players who play it. And for as long as I've been gaming, I've never experienced that. I'd rather have the 12 year old CoD players telling me how often they've slept with my mom combined with the shudder experience of console gaming, than to listen to 20-30 minutes of some individuals vitreous exposition of how terrible of a human being I am all because I gave up first blood to a Vlad (which I COMPLETELY agree I shouldn't have done, but there's a reason I'm stuck in Silver).

So please Riot, do something. I genuinely WANT to keep playing your game. Because the devs and people who have made this game, have made something great to play. But you've given control over to the masses, and they've proven they're just going to ruin it. Don't let them ruin your game. Take it back.

so you want them to pretty much turn this game into sunshine and rainbows and the magical land of nothing bad ever is able to happen right? well to do that we must get rid of all competitive aspects of the game, have everyone win the game regardless of how they played, ban everyone who even remotely says anything negative among many other things but we have to start somewhere

Just use the mute button, then you don't have any negativity in your game what so ever! The fact is, human's are assholes by nature and being able to hide behind computer screens, mixed with the emotions of playing a competitive mode in something people are passionate about stirs up anger / rage. It can't really be solved its how people are.

Welcome to the world of competitive gaming. People can be toxic, and most are, but it's the job of the individual to make sure it doesn't affect their gameplay badly. If you don't like it enough, mute the other players. If you still can't deal with it, you have all the right to leave the game and uninstall.

It sucks but this isn't a solvable issue. The only real way to stop flaming is to take chat away all together. I would actually like that but that is just me. I /mute all everyone as soon as game starts every game. I also keep all chat turned off just in case I forget. It helps me concentrate on what I need to do. Pings work just as good as talking does. Personally I feel like league should enable voice comms like say bf3 does. You're able to talk to your own team without the use of 3rd party programs via skype, ts3, curse, etc, etc... Long story shot just mute everyone. You don't even need to talk to people to get messages across. Not to mention half the time it gets you killed so it's better to just not do it at all.
