What is the logic behind this MMR system?(whinging)

I am prepared to get down voted but I still need to split it out! I have been playing 'OK' lately but I don't understand when I lost one game, I lose 20 points and I'm getting only 10 points in winning. I guess I have been working hard to improve and done my bits in most of my wins. Of course, I have way too much to improve in order to climb but the point I want to say about this system is that it is way too harsh on bronze players like myself who only play solo and wants to improve by legit means. Many people say you need to be a gold plus in order to solo carry out of bronze and I believe the system has created the needs for people to elo boost and smurf duos in order to help carrying their way out. It seems the system is unfair or unfriendly to new comers or legit lower level players and make them a playing field for smurf and trolls to prey on! Thank for reading my whinges.

Hi, gold 4 here. started off bronze 4 in season 4. neat coincidences there... anyway i've heard of elo hell. I've seen it too, but there are 2 tips i have to avoid getting stuck (not 4 unfortunately)

  • Do Not Dwell on ELO Hell:

Take a couple minute between games. Especially if you have a bad game, take time to shake it off, cool down. Dont convince yourself you're not on tilt, dont let it carry over to the next game. Even if you had a good game where you carried hard, use the time to reset your mentality to the beginning of a game, where you dont have full build and can 1v1 anyone on their team.

  • Do Not Contribute to ELO Hell:

This tip is twofold, gameplay and attitude. In games, if you're countered or outplayed in lane, play safe. Practice playing safe, too. Get good at being behind but maintaining CS farm and staying relevant. Make smart plays with low risk, keep in the game and either outscale, outplay, or hope your teammates do while you avoid feeding hard. But also, be a positive player. Dont flame or call gg early and put others on tilt. Talk in champ select and be accomidating if possible. At the very least, DONT CONTRIBUTE to the reasons elo hell is so bad, instalockers, intentional feeders, and flamers.

With luck, once you realize not every game is so bad, less games will be and you can climb easier. :)

Oh yeah, and "get good, skrublord" or something like that.

One of the things you need to realize is your rank is meaningless. Your MMR determines everyone in your game and because of that its only your MMR that really matters. Being "Bronze" or "Gold" literally does nothing but give and an imaginary placing to chase after. Don't believe me? in your next couple of games ask what everyone's rank is. You'll find (and be confused by) there are Silver and Gold players in your games.

MMR sucks. Matchmaking sucks.

I'm in low bronze, and hey, maybe I belong there, but I don't deserve to get matched with teammates who are clearly way less skilled then I am.

I hit B2 once and still got matched with players who were not even close to my personal skill level.

I've played with silvers and some golds who I was more skilled then.

Matchmaking matches by win loss, not actual skill. And often your winloss is artificially set by people who, if matchmaking was skill based, would not be getting matched with you.

Basically to climb, unless you get lucky matchmaking, you have be be several levels better to carry a whole team to climb reliably.

I got bored, looked up your account.

You're correct, your MMR is low. I'm guessing there was a pretty rough loss streak at some point. You have to grind through it, or just wait for the end of the season at this point.

Worth noting:

You seem to play support a lot. Great role, but hard to carry from. Especially when you build like a support. If you're trying to carry from a support role, items like Zeke's Hearld, and Banner of Command tend to be more valuable.

Your KDA is average, a little below 3 on Morgana. I'm not going to say anything to that, just something to look at.

Duo with someone. I've learned that the only way to climb in soloq is to duo. It doesn't even have to be with anyone good. Just someone who doesn't feed, and doesn't rage. I'd also suggest a more consistent support. Morgana is good all around, but kind of reliant on landing her Q.

Guys, Thanks for all your support. Just spoken to some friends and they think smurfing are actually positive for us 'noobs' as we can learn more when playing with better people. The hard part is how to place them evenly between the teams. I remember one game with our mid saying his main is a challenger 500 but when we looked at his records, he has been trolling and losing. Lucky in that game, he played his main (Sandra) and carried!! I have just lose another game and - 23 points! I guess my season is finished so I will just concentrate on improvement from now. No more whinging! lol!

I think a few people have voiced that the MMR system is kind of flawed. But it's great you know you need to improve! I know I do, I'm Silver 3. item 3070

But for me, coming across a smurf isn't that common; trolls might be a different story. I do feel that players who play well despite losing end up being penalized a little too harshly. But that's just an opinion that probably isn't agreed with by very many.

But otherwise... I don't know how it works either.
